How to control Smart R2-D2?

I've been trying for a while to find an in-depth step-by-step instruction for controlling the R2-D2 "Smart" model.

I am a huge Star Wars fan and I would like to control my R2-D2 "Smart" model.

Here is the problem: I have bought the remote control "R2-D2" - "Smart", but how can I do this? I am thinking of putting a battery into the remote control R2-D2 and then connecting the battery to a computer or to a laptop that I can control using the mouse. Is there any "how to"? The only way I know of to control your RC model, is to connect your remote to a computer. There are a couple of software programs which work with RC, but they are not free (and for me a bit pricey). I know when I was younger I could just connect the remote to a PC, I don't know if it's still possible. In any case I don't know of any software which is free.

As I'm not a PC person I don't know the best way to do this. It's something I haven't even thought about yet. But I think that's the only way I know of. Sorry I couldn't help more.

I don't think you can connect it to a PC since it has the built in speaker and a microphone. I think you can connect the remote to a computer using an IR-UART device like the RC Link or IR blaster from RCJ (you can google for it).
