So I started looking all over the glovebox. The problem is that after an hour and about a dozen of places I still couldn't find it. I didn't turn it on again since I don't want to be caught out by that.

How does someone look for an iPhone they might have misplaced? How does one go about finding it? When i've lost my iPhone I've done a similar thing. There are a few things that you should try. These are my steps, but it depends on where you think you may have lost it:

Try to start the device; there's probably nothing wrong with it just needs a charge. If the device is turned on try holding down the power button. This resets the battery from the last time it was charged. The idea is to start at the last "alive" state the battery was in. This will allow you to access everything without the aid of an iTunes backup which can mess with your file/data structure. (this has helped me find lost devices)
If that does not work, try booting off of iCloud. This should open your last saved settings on the web. If you can get to these then your data is probably safe.

If this still doesn't help it could be worth taking it back to the store. In this situation, they should be able to search for anything you own.
