Why wont my iPhone let me add a Gmail Account?

I have an iPhone 5 and this is the first time this has happened to me, previously I had no issues.

I can add any other app to my account, but not Gmail. When trying to add it says there are already email accounts on it. I need help if possible.

Answer. If the problem is that you have Gmail installed on your phone, and it is causing problems, there is a way to go about removing or bypassing the email part of Gmail without actually uninstalling it. I did this about 8 months ago to get my iPhone to sync with Google without having to reinstall all of my apps, but I'm pretty sure it should work without reinstalling all of your apps. Just make sure you back up your entire phone before you do this, then you just need to do one thing - go into Settings and scroll down the list of available apps to the top left of the screen. Tap on Manage Apps and find Gmail in the list. If it is listed, simply tap on it once. This will take you to a page that looks like this.

Make sure you know which account you're using before doing this. You need to turn off your iCloud account, then turn off your Gmail account, then turn back on your iCloud account. At this point, you'll be able to get into the iPhone settings (Settings --> General --> Reset --> Restore From Backup), then select your backup from 6-12 weeks ago.

Note: if you forget what you did when you turned on your Gmail account, it's a good idea to remember exactly what you did. It's a bad idea to assume that it won't change, but if you don't think it'll work, you'll never find out.

That page you showed us should pop open up to allow you to choose what should be done next. Let's say you want to reinstall all of your apps, but you really only care about Gmail. Tap on the button that says "Restore from backup".

That will tell your phone to re-download all of the apps that were backed up with it (if you had previously installed some). It might take awhile, depending on how much data there is in the backup, but it will download and re-install them - so it's a little like you're installing a new OS.

In fact, there are two ways of sharing your info between Gmail and iCloud. The first option is an automatic synchronization between two accounts, and in most cases, it will work automatically by itself, once you have installed Gmail and iCloud Client apps on all devices.

However, some people don't want that and they want an offline approach to sync their info between both accounts. Fortunately, you have the second option here. You can save your files and information in iCloud for your safe keeping as long as you want it to exist, even if you lose your account from Gmail.

If you're in need of an iCloud account, iCloud is basically a service where all your data and files can stay secure from someone who would take over your profile, unless your password has changed and you're ready to log-in again. ICloud is free so you need only to find a free place to put your information like web mail, contact lists and anything else you want it to exist for your safety.

Why can't I add my iCloud Account to my Gmail?

I have used both the normal and the fast methods to add iCloud.

I'm using OS X 10.8.4 and my iMac has the latest update to it's system.

For me, both methods worked as expected, but I do remember the phone call from the support rep stating that Apple was working on making it faster. The only difference is that, when I was using the fast method, the message said: "Gmail is trying to make it easier for you to sync contacts, calendars, and more across devices. It's free, so it's easy for you to add your account: 1) Go to gmail.com."
I didn't really understand why I should add it, but I pressed continue anyway. After I did that, I saw the same window that I had seen when I used the normal method.

Make sure that you go through the Fast Method. The normal method can only be used if you already have an Apple ID with a phone number associated to it.

To do this: Open System Preferences > iCloud. Set Up Your Apple ID. Then follow the instructions here. If you don't see "Gmail is trying to make it easier for you to sync contacts, calendars, and more across devices. It's free, so it's easy for you to add your account:" message, then you're probably using the slow method.
