I can't access the VPN any more since I use an Android phone. I tried with several Android devices. They work fine in my own country and abroad (India, Dubai, Brazil), but not in China where the VPN connection freezes (no connection available), it doesn't even ask for a username and password.

I tried on my Mac at home and also at work. Same problem. It's not only happening in China; it works well in other countries. But not in China.

I have a Huawei modem and a Huawei Android phone (also with ExpressVPN activated) and I have not been able to get it to work in China or any other country. Also tried with a cheap TP-Link router and got the same results. Anyone else got this problem? I just needed to update the EMUI firmware to version 6.0 and then activate the VPN manually in the VPN setting menu.

Just tried the same Huawei Android phone as I had on December 30th last year. I have updated the EMUI to version 6.0 as well and activated the VPN manually. It worked. I had to run dnsmasq and resolvconf to fix it. I then installed network-manager and connected to a vpn. Now when I go to the settings menu on network manager, I can't find VPN or any options. I'm connected to my home wifi with a TP link modem/router/internet thing. Do I need to restart my computer?

Is my VPN not connecting China? If it is a Windows VPN, I suggest you reinstall the VPN software (eg: OpenVPN) and try again. It may be an issue that Windows can't resolve the DNS properly. The reason might be that your internal DNS server is configured as a local DNS server, while OpenVPN uses Google DNS to resolve DNS.

That being said, in my personal experience, it's much more likely that the actual network connectivity of the VPN server/service is not working properly. I've managed to get past this by using the OpenVPN connection in Windows 7 through a web browser (ie: Chrome), with my VPN server running on port 80. This worked for me, although it's not ideal.
