Which VPN country should I use when in China?
I have called myself a tech writer but I believe that my major for writing is ranting. I work as a web developer, I have been making money online since 2023. I started writing about VPNs in 2023 and I wrote many articles but I have never published one, I just liked writing.
P.S. I don't take commissions, I will never sell your information for any reason. What you share with me is entirely your own.
Hey, thanks for your visit and your interest in what I write. It's great to hear from you and I'm glad you're here! I'm currently living in the country of Hong Kong. I have lived in this beautiful city for 10 months already, long enough for me to make friends and acquaintances in this amazing city.
Unfortunately, this is also one of the few places I can't talk about the future of VPNs because everyone on this part of the world is heavily controlled by the Chinese government. Internet penetration is almost 100% but censorship is on the rise.
The Chinese government has been working on this since 2023. In the past couple of years, they have really started enforcing their censorship.
For example, the Chinese government will block VPNs so that not even Chinese citizens can use them. Chinese citizens are not allowed to use and access VPNs. This is one of the reasons why I'm not visiting my friends or having Internet parties.
They do this because they disrespect people's privacy and it's somewhat a way of psychological warfare. They are trying to get their citizens to stop using VPNs because they don't want you to grow up and leave the country.
We are waging a war against these. This is why you should use a VPN to your advantage while in China.
Much of the Internet censorship is taken care of in Hong Kong. Things that are not blocked in mainland China are censored in Hong Kong.
A good example of this is Google maps. You can't find locations and street names on Google maps in Hong Kong. I could say that they have some sort of censorship on Google maps there.
What's very interesting is that some websites won't work in Hong Kong but they will work everywhere else.

How do I get ExpressVPN to work in China?
The main reason one would want to use ExpressVPN in China is to bypass the Great Firewall of China. ExpressVPN, while not perfect is the best VPN software on the market for this type of use. In this article we'll go over the details of how to get ExpressVPN to work in China.
ExpressVPN is a paid VPN service and the primary reason that it is selected as the best VPN for China bypass is that it is one of the few VPN services that is registered in China. Because it is a registered VPN it means that the Chinese government does not block expressvpn.com.
But there are still two ways to use ExpressVPN in China. The first way bypasses the Great Firewall completely and the second method emulates a VPN tunnel on your local network. We'll go over the details of the second method in this article.
Using ExpressVPN with a Virtual Private Network. ExpressVPN is designed to be used as a paid VPN; it is a completely different type of service than a free service such as the unblocked usa. Performance issues are common with free services as the free VPNs are not designed for high throughput connections. Typically, a free VPN will work fine for a few hours of mobile browsing but will suffer in web browsing and other applications that have high throughput requirements. By contrast, ExpressVPN is designed to work well at a high throughput. Also, since it is a paid VPN service, you won't have any issues logging into your account or accessing features and apps.
In addition to the above, most free VPNs do not have a double VPN feature. When using a free VPN in China, one VPN is used to bypass the Great Firewall and a second VPN is used to access your local network. These two VPN networks don't talk to each other and the second VPN is invisible to your local network. In other words, the double VPN feature is turned off.
Since ExpressVPN is a paid VPN service, it does have double VPN functionality as well as a few other features that are not available on the free VPNs. By default, ExpressVPN is setup with a single VPN to bypass the Great Firewall. There are also some advanced settings that allow you to setup your VPN to use double VPN.

What should I do if my VPN stops working in China?
As the wider world wakes up to the serious, dangerous threat China poses to our civil liberties and security, people in the know are asking: from a freedom of speech perspective, ? In this blog post, I'll explain what a VPN is, how it works, what risks are involved, and what we can do to protect ourselves and our free speech in China. What is a VPN? A VPN is used to access the internet in a censored country. The internet is largely provided by two networks, one of which is called the "underground" and the other is called the "overground". The overground network is provided by your area's ISP (Internet Service Provider); this will be a large telco in the west but will be operated by a smaller company in China. The underground network is provided by the local Communist Party in your area. In order to access the internet, you need to approach both networks simultaneously. The easiest way to do this is by using a VPN. A VPN is like a "proxy" server (hence the name), which is a server that sits between you and the internet and looks like it is a legitimate server. You can then use a browser or other software on your computer to connect to the VPN and disguise your location and identity as being in the west (USA, UK, or your home country, for example).
There are many benefits to using a VPN: When you connect to a VPN, the network provider in your area (your ISP) believes that you are connected to the outside network, and will pass messages through to the VPN and back to you. As such, they will not monitor you or filter your traffic, and will not be able, or even tempted, to alter or block things you are doing.
When you connect to a VPN, your computer can pretend to be physically located in the west, which allows you to access the internet freely. Without a VPN, your location is obvious and is subject to the whims of the Chinese government, who may decide to block or monitor you, and who may use any excuse to do so: for example, if the government thinks you are causing trouble, or if they feel like it. As such, it's often better to connect to the internet from a place where they can't see you.
Is ExpressVPN a Chinese company?
Kevin Lee
Last updated: March 19th, 2023. I've been asked this question so often, that I thought it'd be good to bust this myth once and for all. In this article, I'll explain how to easily determine whether an Internet service provider (ISP) is a Chinese company, from its marketing materials and other documents. There are two reasons why you might be wondering about this. First, you may be suspicious of the company's origins and who is it serving. Second, you may be concerned about Chinese spying on your network, more generally.
This is a complex topic, so let's start with the basics: An ISP is a company that provides Internet access and/or connectivity to its customers. An ISP is also known as a broadband or network service provider. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network connection that allows you to connect to the Internet through a secure tunnel over a public or private network without disclosing your actual location and without revealing your Internet traffic. Although VPNs are the most common type of private network, many ISPs also offer VPNs, in which case they are known as virtual private network ISPs or VPNs. If you're using your mobile phone to connect to the Internet, it's likely an ISP is providing you with access to the Internet, either through a fixed wireless or mobile network. If you're using a computer or a network device, you're unlikely to have an ISP. Whether you're in a home or a business, you'll probably have a dumb or modem that connects your computer to a broadband network.
A dumb or modem is a device that connects your computer to the Internet. There's a curious historical twist: back in the 1980s, you'd buy a computer that came with a modem. You'd then use that modem to connect to the dial-up internet service that was provided by a phone company.
