How to find the IP address of mobile data?
I have searched high and low for the answer to this question.
Some sources say it is on the Settings > Status bar but there is no "Status" option in settings on any android version. I also can't find a place that lists what device properties you can check.
In Android 2.x, I looked at the status bar if I was connected to a WiFi network and checked it. If I wasn't connected to wifi, it would be greyed out. There are no other places I could see that it showed up.
From my understanding, if I use mobile data (2g or 3g), then I would assume that the IP address would show up on the device as seen on my laptop computer. Any help or advice would be great! I have checked the status bar with no results but when I am connected to mobile data, I get a red signal bar. However, I have no idea what to do. Does this mean the mobile data has something to do with my signal and IP location? Or is it just a way to tell me my mobile data isn't working right now?
Edit: I realize that the red means no service while red means poor/lousy service. I don't know what that means.
What I noticed is that when my phone (HTC wildfire) is connected to WiFi, the Red Network bar is greyed out and when I'm on mobile data, the red disappears. Is the red a sign of a weak cell tower connection? I have not looked at it since 4.0 but it does look similar to how it appears. That being said, I'm not certain what it means.
The status bar is meant to display whatever information is necessary to display on the screen of your device. And what this can include, is the WLAN mode that the phone is currently running in.
To see the information in the status bar, you have to have a specific APN configured on the device. For more information, please read the following: When you set up the APN config and it connects to the network, it will notify the system using the status bar. If you don't want to change the APN configuration settings, you can also do a few things with a soft APN.

It's not an IP address per se, but it's possible that the phone is connecting to your WiFi network using a proxy server. If you have configured the WiFi network settings on your phone, then this should be transparent to you. Otherwise, if you're on a newer Android version, there may be an option to turn on "Proxy". See Settings > WiFi > Advanced > Proxy.

I've been trying to understand why mobile data and Wi-Fi have different IP addresses.
For the sake of this answer, I'm assuming you're asking about IPv4 addresses. Mobile data and Wi-Fi are handled separately because they use different data protocols (mobile data is based on GSM, Wi-Fi on 802.11). The reason for the distinction is so that the data protocol can determine how the data should be delivered.
Mobile data and Wi-Fi can both use the Internet Protocol, so they must use a different address space. That's why you'll see them in different subnets. The main difference is that with Wi-Fi, all traffic must go through the Access Point, which has its own IP address. This is referred to as being "rooted". With mobile data, the carrier can route the traffic directly to the AP, which is called being "rooted". You can't have both at once.
The first bit is wrong. There's no such thing as "mobile data" as such. There's GSM (cellular), there's WLAN, and there's UMTS/HSPA (cellular over the internet). They are not distinct from each other; in fact the first three all belong to the same standard (3GPP).
The second bit is also wrong. There are a whole bunch of different things, from the GSM family of protocols, to GPRS, HSDPA, EDGE, 3G, 4G, WCDMA and CDMA2000, and 802.11 (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n), but they all have their own protocols.
In fact, we're getting a bit off topic here, but this one-one correspondence is why it's called "IPv4". Actually, you can. It's called dual-stack.
