What happened to the Find My Friends app?

It was one of those apps that changed the way we interact with each other.

It was like the "Walking Dead" of the iPhone, the only way to find someone's phone in a sea of millions of people.

With the Find My Friends app, we could locate our friends' phones, as well as anyone else's, anywhere in the world. The app didn't need GPS to work, and it was easy to use. No more going through hundreds of contacts just to find someone's name. You simply typed the person's name into the search bar and then hit search. BAM, there was their phone.

It worked great. Until Apple decided it no longer wanted to sell the app. They shut it down and now, we have no way of finding people's phones.

Apple wants to sell you its latest Apple TV, but what about the old Apple TV? Apple released the fourth-generation Apple TV, but it's still the same old Apple TV that you can buy from the Apple Store. If you don't know why that's important, then you're already behind the times. Let me explain.

As I've written about before, I'm a huge Apple fan. I've got the newest iPhone, I've got my Macbook Pro, and I have a MacBook Air. I even have an Apple TV.99, which is good price for a device that includes a Fire TV Stick and Roku 3 streaming stick. I can buy a lot of things from Amazon for that price.

I'm no Apple fanboy. In fact, I think Steve Jobs was a great innovator and created some of the best products ever made. But this Apple TV is just a sad reflection of the company's current state. Apple has always been the master of innovation. But lately, it's been a slow transition into selling devices and services that are mediocre at best. The Apple TV is just the latest example of this shift.

Can your friends see when you check their location on Find My iPhone?

It seems to be an increasingly common question.

We've answered it in a recent Ask iMore article: Yes, but not with Find My iPhone. As of iOS 10.0, Find My iPhone only works within a specific distance of the person whose device you want to find, not a distance from where you last used the app, or from where the other person's phone was last used. This information is only available through your carrier and to a limited audience of contacts or other people who have also enabled Location Services on their device.

If you've enabled Location Services on your iPhone, then your contacts (and the people you've accepted as friends on Facebook and other social networks) can see that you have the app installed, and where you were when you last accessed the app. People with an Apple Watch or Mac can see where you are on your iPhone as long as your iPhone is powered on, within 100 yards of the watch or Mac, and it has been at least 20 minutes since you used Find My iPhone.

If your device is lost, help can be provided by sending an iCloud message to recover your device, or by activating Siri to report your lost device to local authorities. This year's update to Find My iPhone brings enhancements including the ability to share your device's current location on social networks and new alerts that let you know when someone tries to use your device.

Using Find My iPhone. You can use Find My iPhone to help you or a loved one recover a lost phone or determine someone's location. You can do all of these things from the Find My iPhone app on your iPhone, or you can use the web or apps for Mac and Apple Watch. If you're using the Mac or Apple Watch, Find My iPhone will show the current location of your iPhone on the watch face.

To use Find My iPhone, launch the app, and turn on the function. You can also ask Siri to find your device. Tap Learn About Find My iPhone. You will be prompted to enable Location Services on your device, which will open the Settings app.

How do I track someone on Find My Friends?

If you have a Find My Friends account, you can track a lost device or a friend's device from within the app.

To find your missing device, look for the Find icon in the menu bar. The icon will turn blue when you are near a device.

From the map of all devices, you can also get a list of devices near you. To get help with locating a lost device, click Contact Us in the app menu bar. You can also send anonymous report to the company to get the location of the device or friend who is missing.

If you are near a missing device, tap the Lost Device button on the Find My Friends app. You will see a message that a device has been found near you. Tap the name of the device to find out more about it.
