Thanks in advance. Saral. No, it's not possible. The IP address of your phone will not change when it turns off. The only way to know where it is to have its GPS activated.

Hi Saral, I'm not an expert but here is what I found out on my own. If you were to use a website to check your location and that phone is using a sim card from another country then it would be possible to use the sim card to trace where it is. In order for this to happen you need to switch the sim card to roaming mode and then put it in to airplane mode. This means that it is no longer connected to the cell tower and therefore no IP address can be obtained.

If you switch the sim card to roaming mode and then switch the phone to airplane mode and then back to roaming mode you will be able to see the location of the phone in Google Maps. I hope that helps, it's not very easy to explain but there are lots of tutorials on the web. Thank you for your reply. Samsung phone owners rejoice. There's nothing stopping you from going through your smartphone and tracking down those stolen gadgets if you happen to have an iPhone on hand. However, it turns out that not every iPhone app you use can track Samsung phones. Of the few services listed as working (and there's a big difference between "works on my phone" and "can track the device"), each may or may not be useful for you depending on who and what you plan to recover.

Apple is making changes. But wait, there's more! There is hope beyond just Google's and Apple's apps. A group called Geeksphone has managed to develop their own solution. It's just like Apple's Find My iPhone, but instead of requiring activation it works off of a SIM cardmuch more simple than a new iPhone purchase. There's no Android phone compatibility, so it'll only work if your phone is a Samsung. It works great, and it's the only service I can find right now that doesn't require a subscription to unlock the phone to get the full experience.

Why is Find My Device Not Working on Samsung?

My phone is an s8 running android 7.1 and I cannot access the Find My Device settings. There are no messages in the event log or device messages. If I reset the phone the find my device works.

In the settings of your android you will be able to find this option in "Security". Also, if you are a frequent user of your phone, you may experience some connection issues that will make you lose your connection with your phone and can trigger a "Find my device" request. This will be reflected by your mobile provider as a dropped call. Make sure your provider doesn't block those kind of calls.

The S8 should be able to get its location once someone has enabled the feature. I believe that on this phone it is under the location setting. As well, you can follow the steps below to enable it. After completing, check your phone's location history and the GPS device ID located under "Settings" then click "Find my Phone" to verify that your phone is now able to get its location.

Click Menu. Click "Device info". Under Device settings scroll to "Location". Tick the box for "GPS." You will also be able to see the last few steps that your device was connected to. I am able to access the security menu on my new Samsung s8 with the Find My Device option available under the security settings. I enabled "Find my Phone" by tapping on the "Menu" icon in the top right, followed by the "Add or Remove device" option in the device management menu. When I enter my device I get the message "Unable to retrieve location."

In other words the "Find my device" button will show under the security settings but it does nothing. I have my S8 Plus, however, my S7 did the same thing. I contacted Samsung, the guy told me to restart my phone which I did, it didn't work.
