What skills are required for QA test engineer?

I would imagine that a QA tester is someone who knows how to work as part of a team, and is able to communicate effectively with others. The primary purpose of a QA tester is to prevent the development team from getting themselves into a sticky position. Their skills include:
Writing test plans. Writing the scripts for test cases. Writing regression tests to verify the application still works after new changes are added. Running the scripts that are written by the QA engineer. Communicating effectively with the Development team when bugs are found. The QA engineer is often responsible for running the test scripts on many of the tools the developers use, so it is helpful to have experience with using and developing for those tools (ie Perl, Python, JAVA, etc). This also allows you to write tests that are cross-browser compatible and use an effective testing technique, because the QA engineer should be able to run the same script on several different platforms. This means the QA engineer should know how to use a Unix command line, be familiar with Windows command line, and be able to run scripts with JAVA from any platform.
Your answer saved me hours of research time. Thank you! I know nothing about this topic, but will definitely use this information to get a better grasp of the role. Thanks again for your reply. I will share your feedback with my company, as well. The skills needed for a QA tester are much like the skills for a development tester in that you need to have a good working knowledge of the technology and be able to communicate effectively. Beyond that, I wouldn't be able to give an exhaustive list of what skills are needed.
This depends on what you are specifically being called upon to do. If you were to look at the job posting, there would be a list of skills you would need to be able to fulfill the duties listed, but since this site doesn't require employment, and is strictly a free resource, the people that are using the site are taking on the responsibility of providing the details of their own resume.
What should a QA engineer put on a resume?
What should a QA engineer look for in a company?
Should I be applying for a technical QA engineer job or something else?
Hi QQC, thanks for the advice. I don't know exactly where my experience lies. As a side, is there a job board where you recommend applying for? I am thinking of building up some resume examples and posting to companies that interest me or apply.
Thanks for reading. Cheers. Last edited by Jad on Wed Nov 15, 2024 6:47 pm, edited 1 time in total. It seems like you really did your research. I would highly recommend applying for a QA engineer position. When looking at the skills listed for a QA engineer you see that they need a solid knowledge of programming languages (both C and Java). Although it's possible to work as a QA engineer without being able to program, it's not going to show in a resume. The company you want to work for can't guarantee that you'll be able to program because you may be hired as a "QA Test Engineer" without being able to program (I was, and I failed the interview because of this).
Also, for the most part, you will want to be working at a small to medium sized company (not too big, not too small), with less than 1000 employees (smaller for some regions of the country). A large company can have difficulty assigning QA engineers to positions within their organization (ie when they need support). That being said, large companies usually have a strong QA department which helps you with finding your ideal QA position within the company. My advice would be to contact every QA engineer's social network/online presence (Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, Quora, Github, etc). See if there is any mention of a QA position within the company, and find the location of that position. Once you have identified the QA department within the company, you'll want to contact them by email with a generic resume asking about QA Engineer position. You can follow up with an email to the appropriate person once you're selected and be able to discuss what the job entails.
As far as QA testing and reporting goes, one of the best things you can do is to familiarize yourself with the tools and practices they use, and ask questions about them.
What are quality assurance skills for resume?
.
How can u answer them?
Hi there, how can you answer these kind of questions?I never thought of doing this before and I was reading the book 'Make sure you're perfect. What should you know? ? I don't know how to give answers to that as these are questions about the process of producing a resume and the content and formatting need to be right for an interview. As some of these questions are about the process of producing the CV, I think I should not go into that at length, as this is not for general discussion. You should be able to produce a CV that will be the best match to the specific vacancy for which you wish to compete. Therefore, it is important that the format and information you choose for your CV will meet the employer's criteria. You should have a clear idea of your goals (job target) and the most relevant skills required to achieve them.
As the questions you have to answer only concern formatting issues, I believe that a quick and concise answer, which avoids excessive fluff, may get you past the point if they make anyone lose interest - so, avoid unnecessary detail or length. You can always add more information later if necessary. Use quality words rather than flashy ones.
The "shortlist" is composed of about 25 CVs, each of which is about 5-6 minutes long. They will then be invited to prepare a 20-minute presentation in front of each of the selection committee (the final selection) The final selection committee will look for several things:A clearly written resume that supports the job requirements and goals set up by the shortlist and is a match for the specific job requirement.A clear example of your ability to communicate with ease and understanding with all parties. Some examples of projects/work examples or recent experience in your specific field of interest in your work history.Informative letters explaining your recent professional experience in a clear manner.A project portfolio that supports your project description, that is presented professionally, and has good evidence that everything is up to standard. An appropriate cover letter stating the most important thing for the recruiter/HR person to consider.Your contact details stated at the end of the letter and an email to be used as a second line of defence in the event you do not get through on your first attempt.
