What should I search on Glassdoor to find qa tester jobs in New York, NY?
A recruiter-turned-engineer, I love to write code. Having spent years working as a software developer for a large insurance company, I began to grow frustrated with the lack of diversity in the industry and how some candidates are unfairly screened for a simple coding test. I decided to step away from this line of work and focus on my passion for writing. I joined Glassdoor in 2023 as the site's first Senior Product Engineer and since then, I've had the privilege of helping build a community for the world's largest job site.
The QA Manager you hired quit. What should you look for in your next QA Manager? Before hiring an engineer, you need to understand his or her skillset. This will help you screen out candidates who don't have the right skills.
Some candidates try to make up for a lack of skills by using shortcuts to solve simple problems. It takes a lot of effort to teach someone how to solve problems the right way, and it doesn't take much effort to solve problems the wrong way. If you see someone solving problems the wrong way, ask yourself: what's wrong with their approach? I usually like to see some code in their response so I can get a better idea of how they'd solve the problem.
If you think a candidate's skillset matches what you're looking for, continue reading to learn more about how you can ask questions to really get to know what you're hiring for. How can I evaluate my QA Manager's performance? This is another question you should be asking yourself. You need to understand what the job entails and why you're hiring someone for the role. Once you have an idea of what you're looking for, ask yourself these questions:
Would you hire this person for another position at your company? Why or why not? Does this person have experience testing software? What types of projects have they worked on? Do they have experience with particular tools? Has this person tested your current application? How often did they run into issues while doing so? How often does this person go beyond the required testing? Does he or she take on additional tasks for the sake of a good story or does he or she go out of his or her way to find issues?

How much do QA testers make in NYC?
This post is the second of two part series where I'll tell you what exactly QA testing is and what a QA tester does. As I was writing this post and talking to a few of my friends in NYC QA agencies who actually do know what QA testers do, I got into a bit of a conversation about how they would say that QA testing is worth it. I wanted to understand what is exactly QA testing? Let me tell you why I didn't write anything about that: I just assumed it was something like bug tracking or maybe even bug hunting, but nothing came up for me when I was researching about QI started reading one blog post after another and I had to give up. Eventually, I decided to create a blog post called What Exactly Is QA Testing? To get into that topic, I asked several QA testers of different QA agencies whether it's really worth the effort of being a QA tester? That question led to some heated discussion on Twitter and Facebook. At the end of the day, you can definitely make a living from QA testing depending on your experience and your team and organization. Now you might be thinking Okay so which QA testers should I hire? You might be asking yourself all the things I'm going to list below. If you think that I don't get it; well, I'm going to explain to you what exactly QA testing is in this post and as well as the difference between what an average QA tester does and how a high skilled QA tester does. Once I've gone through those questions and got some clarity on what QA testing is and then you go through the same questions again. At that point, we're going to come to a conclusion that what your next step should be (as a QA tester or as a QA project manager).
