In the software industry, there are a lot of positions where the pay is low, and I'm sure the same is true for QA testers. I just wanted to know how much it's in NY.

It's obviously not true that you should never be willing to work for less than market rate. But at the same time, the market rate should never be set by the lowest bidder.

The pay for testers should not be set by the lowest bidder. I don't think it should be set by the highest bidder either.

The pay for testers should be set by an independent panel of testers who have the same knowledge and abilities as the testers, and whose only interest is in how much they can earn. It's interesting that you say that people should never be willing to work for less than market rate, because when I was doing freelance work, I often worked for less than market rate. I always made sure that I had a good enough idea of how much I could make per hour, so that I didn't end up working for less than market rate.
