How do I use Safari browser?
Your Safari browser is used to view all of your online information as well as to send and receive information on your computer.
To access all of this information, you must sign into the web site where you are currently logged in. To begin the process of signing into a web site click on the Safari 'gear' icon located on the top right side of the Safari browser window. This will open up your browser options panel. Click on the preferences menu item. At the top of the preferences window, you can select the option 'Sign In' and follow the instructions to the web site you wish to sign into. You can also select the option 'Log In' to sign into web sites that you use on a regular basis. By selecting 'Sign In', you are able to maintain the current session on the web site you have signed in to at the time of entering your preference, allowing you to view information stored on that site without being prompted to sign in again.
If you are not able to sign in to a web site using your username and password or have forgotten the login information required for accessing certain web sites, you can find this information in your user profile. To access your user profile, you must select the account icon located in the top right corner of your Safari browser window and select the account menu item. This will open up the 'account' page on the top of the window. From here you can locate your 'profile' on the web site as well as view details about your security settings including your login name and password. If you select your account 'settings' from the account page, you can set your own account information if you need to change something about your current account.
Once you are signed into a web site, you will notice a small icon in the address bar in the bottom right hand corner of your browser window. Clicking this will open up the 'Bookmarks' page which contains a list of websites you have visited in the past. Clicking on the bookmark name will open the web page you have previously visited. This can be useful if you wish to view a web page from earlier in your browsing history, it will be listed on the 'Bookmarks' page.
What is the default browser for Safari?
Is it Safari?
There are actually several browsers that Safari can use as its default. When you go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts, you'll notice a list of options, but there's a problem. For example, I've got the Chrome shortcuts listed above, but also have the option to type Google into the search box to search for web pages. But if I leave Google here, Google will not search with Google (as you would expect), but rather will open the Web browser (Safari). Likewise, if I leave Chrome here, the Chrome browser will open (not what we want) and a message will pop up saying "The Chrome browser is already running." If I leave Chrome here, I will have to click on the icon of the Chrome browser to get it to open.
There's one more issue: The shortcut keys that appear in the list of shortcuts depend on which shortcut key is set to the Safari app. So I have to know what key is currently set to the Safari app to know what the shortcuts are for it. That's why there's a lot of confusion.
If I have a link I want to go to, I need to right-click on the link, and choose "Open in Safari" or "Open in Chrome." But if I want to go to a web page, the options are a bit trickier. I may want to go to a web page by typing the web address into the search box. Or, I may have a set of shortcuts that I want to use to open specific web pages.
I hope this helps, but feel free to post any questions you have. We'll try to answer them.
My understanding is that when you set up your Safari shortcut keys that you can select whether it opens in Safari, Chrome or Firefox. So if you select Firefox, then your shortcuts will work as you expect.
If you want your browser to open in Safari, then when you select Safari, then the shortcuts will work as you expect.
