You can find the version number for each version of Play Services on your device by opening up the Play Store app on your device, then going to Settings > Apps. How do I activate Google Play service?

I've read numerous other tutorials telling me to activate my Google service on my Galaxy Tab Pro SM-T530. Yet it keeps asking me to "activate the play services" while a download is pending. What does this mean? If I do the download and install Play services, will it automatically activate itself? Update: I had another issue. My device was rooted and I wanted to install USB Debugging. After installing Play services, it failed again and went back to the original bootup screen saying "root system not found". I uninstalled, installed again then tried to activate from settings. Now it asks me to download and activate, but when I try to download it gives me a message saying "unable to download updates" . I've never encountered that before. Any ideas?
Activating means that you're agreeing to the terms and conditions for some Android Services that Google has provided. In the event that you don't already know what the terms and conditions are, just allow it to download them all (it's only about 100 megabytes). It will take about 15-20 minutes to download and install Google Play services. I'm working with an SM-T530 as well, same problem. The steps I did to install the device and also to make it usable without root were these: Downloaded OTA Samsung Kies. Turned off Wi-Fi on the phone. Downloaded adb drivers. Downloaded the ADB binary. Went to: Once the tool is downloaded, go to SDK Manager, search for 'google', and install the tools (and dependencies such as the google play services) that are required for installing. There should be two packages (each over 500 mb) - the first is probably the ones listed.

The second package has something like 'google maps and location'. Uninstall that and install again, then reinstall the other package. And the play services app should pop up after the adb installation. It's easy, you don't need root or any special permissions to install it.

Is Google Play Services necessary for YouTube?

- Android Central
A new question appears on every topic page.

Some people want to know if there is a need for the play services package, which contains the Google Play Store, because they don't want to have to deal with it when installing some app. The answer is yes and no. Yes, play services is important because YouTube doesn't work without it, but no because Google's official YouTube app works just fine without the Play Store.

There is no good reason to ever use the "Play Store" app on Android or to install apps from there. It's a complete waste of space, time and bandwidth.

Google is very evil. You want to download and watch videos on the internet, well. Then you need google and it's terrible app.

Google Play services are not evil. The services from them can be disabled or uninstalled. Google just provides this nice app so that we can watch videos from the YouTube website. And because we want to keep this nice app they give it to us. What's wrong with that?

And why do some people claim that the Google Play Store is a "waste of space"? It's not. There is still space on your SD card for apps, music and video, which means there is still room for the Play Store. They simply just moved the store to the smartphone.

I hate Google but I love Android so please make a Google OS. Maybe I'm the minority but in Google's eyes I am.

How was the question posted in the first place? I'm pretty sure the poster didn't ask if it is possible to watch YouTube videos without play services; rather, they are asking if it is necessary for play services to be installed. I personally don't think Google wants you to watch YouTube videos. But let's be honest here. Who does? They've been making moves to force everyone to watch YouTube on Google TV lately, and they're being very open about it interviews and blog posts. Google wants everything to be on their property. Google can make money off of advertising, and it can make a ton of money off of subscriptions like the ones offered by Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, iHeart Radio, MLB.TV and Amazon Instant Video.
