Is Carmela a Mexican name?

How rare is the name carmella?

I've been using it for months without anyone noticing.

:)

If you're gonna do it, do it. I was just trying to make things simpler for those who want to use/read "carmella" and others. It will likely be a bit confusing to newcomers.

I'm a firm believer of the "do what you wanna do, but don't let it get to your head" ideology. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being ambitious, but at the same time, you should keep in mind that "carmella" is a pretty common name (for me it's almost impossible to find a girl who's not named "carmella"). And if it becomes impossible to find a girl with that name, the odds are, she'll become a carmelo.

My advice is, if you like the name "carmella", why not create another username? I'm not saying this is the case for you, but it might for some people. For example, my last name is "Alfred". My current username is "Alfred-Sama".

Why not change your name to Carmel? I was talking to a friend of mine whose name is Carmel. As far as using Carmella. I can't stand it. It's too much for me. No one has ever complained about it, but the name still feels wrong to me. So, even though people I know are called Carmella, I avoid using it.

But I totally understand where your coming from. I'm like that too. It's almost impossible to find someone who uses the name and its even more difficult to find a girl who's not named Carmel. And most of the girls I know are named Carmel or Carmella. It's really rare to find a girl with a different name.

Carmella is really cool though, and a bit of a rare name, but like I said earlier, its rare because it's so common. The only reason I didn't change my username was because I wanted a new name. When I googled the name "Mila", there were no results for Mila. But when I searched "Mila Sama" I found tons of sites and people. It's really rare, but I did find a girl with that name.

Is Carmella a nice name?

In my opinion, I like Carmella.

The other names you provided are either old and boring or too much of a mouthful. It's not very common either.

Thanks. Carmella is a pretty name if that's the way she goes with it. If I knew her mother well, I would recommend something like Mary or Elizabeth to keep it family-appropriate. Also, some people love the name Sophia.

Thanks - this is the name my sister-in-law (who had two and named them both Sophia) wanted for her daughter. She said if her first daughter was a boy, he could be named Sophia because of the poem Little Sophia by Christina Rossetti.

I've also heard that it's similar to the Italian name Sophia. It would still be different enough to keep from being cliche or overused.

Carmella, Carmella - both seem fine to me. Carmela, with an "a" at the end, sounds a bit feminine. "Carmela" only seems too Italian-y. Carmelina (not the other way around) is good.

The names on my fb page for girls are Mabel and Mabell - short, non-offensive, and fairly unique. I agree that Mabel is pretty unique (especially if a girl uses her middle name in first name form) and Mabel and Mabell seem to be pretty common on my friends list. (I had a little too much fun with the list of nicknames for a girl!) I'm still debating on what I should go with. I like Mabell, but some of the other names I like are: Carmella, Sophia, Annabelle, and Ava.

Is there any significance to using Mabel for a girl and Mabel for a boy? I just don't see it as being "manly." Or is that not how it works? I haven't heard of that and would never use it if I knew what it was supposed to mean. I liked the girl I went to elementary school with. Her name was Madeline. At least that is what I thought it was.

I did a google image search to see if I could find any other meaning and it seems it does indeed mean "maiden". Mabel, Mabell - both seem ok.

What ethnicity is the name Carmella?

The people of Rome and Naples will all tell you 'Carmella' is an Italian and Italian name, but I have yet to meet a North American who says they like it.

It is a lovely, old fashioned name from the old time of the Roman Empire. But is it considered as an Anglo names today?

I'm so happy to find other names with such a long history! My parents used to call me "car" because that was our nickname for my real name, Carola. But then they changed their last name to one that sounded English because my birth name is Italian. In the family everyone in Italy knows how to say "carola", and my grandma is thrilled when she sees me, not realizing the name changes. In school I was only called "cara" and "Carola". That name is considered very chic in Italy and is even a popular TV show nanny's name nowadays:
