Is Carmela a Spanish name?

What does Carmela mean in Italian?

I was looking for some Italian music and found a song that sounded familiar, called "Carmela," with Luciano Pavarotti on vocals.

But I can't find any meaning to the song or the artist! Any help would be appreciated! The singer is on YouTube if anyone wants to see/hear it.

I'm thinking it's about a lost lover, but why would "lost love" be in a song called Carmela? "Carmela" appears on Pavarotti's "The Greatest Songs of Love" CD. It is a ballad, as Pavarotti sings about finding the perfect woman in "carmella," meaning "caramel," or something of that nature. It is sung by Pavarotti in english, but it is actually in Italian. You should listen and see what it means. He is singing about trying to meet a really, really good woman in a song called "carmella."

When does "Carmela" end? Why? How did it end up being such a part of his career? Luciano Pavarotti is singing "Carmela" in this video. In case you are wondering, this video is not of Pavarotti but of Michael Bolton performing it. His voice resembles Pavarotti's in the beginning, but it doesn't stay like that the whole time. Michael Bolton is a bad singer, by the way.

I would like to know if "Car-mel-la" can be also referred to the name of a chocolate candy brand in Italy, or whether "Carmela" means 'Little Caramel' as the company is named after caramel sweets. In short: a chocolate-covered stick of salted boiled peanuts; I think it originated from a French confection, and then was imported to Italy as a more popular variation than the candies we buy at grocery stores and so on. How come the song is called "Carmela?" Is that just another name for 'Clementine' - the common name for "Dew Drop" among other names? Actually, according to the wikipedia article, the name "Carmela" was chosen specifically because of another Luciano Pavarotti song with the same name.

The story of this name

If you were to read this question you might assume that this is some kind of joke.

If you do not know my wife, the answer is yes, it is a Spanish name. At first I never thought about the origins of our kids names. But the more I looked into it, the more interested I got. Let me share with you the story behind this name.

Let's start with my wife's roots. Her mother took her to live in Spain at a young age. This was done for very good reasons. One of them was that her mother wanted Carmela to know her language which is a great language that every one should have some sort of respect and attention given to it. It is very different from the way in which English is spoken. The next reason was to be able to understand where she came from and where she belonged. She understood that this is a special culture and she wanted to belong to it as much as possible. So she kept it up her sleeve all of her life. She started learning the language as soon as she was able.

When they reached Barcelona her father decided to start his professional life there. My wife's father's career was very important to her. He left a good job in Canada where he was working and he wanted Carmela to have a better future. They were the best of friends when they lived together but they eventually broke off due to circumstances which do not concern me here. Once he left Spain for good, Carmela did not have her mother to practice her language anymore so she had to start from scratch. To do this she had to continue learning Spanish from books. After that she went to live in New Zealand for five years. From there she moved to Texas. In Texas we had a lot of luck. A lot of people from Spain were living in that area. Since Carmela was a good girl her teachers tried to give her the best possible treatment in the areas where she needed it most. For this reason, she took classes in Spanish. In Texas she improved a lot because she was surrounded by many teachers that knew the language and were very good at teaching it.

To be able to understand her native tongue better and in a more fluent form, Carmela decided to take an online course in Spanish. Not only did she want to learn the language, but she also wanted to learn how to communicate with the locals.

What nationality is the name Carmella?

(I would like to make a character of her, even if not human that character has the same name than this character's (name))
I think, Carmella in Italian is: carmelo. Carmela. Does existe this name Carmela? The meaning of it and where are the names for that language that it should correspond with it? I would say Italian is the language that will have most of words having that sound, but Spanish or Italian/Italian will be the most common as I know. Spanish does not match with your words "carmelo", but "calabaza", which is carmel (carmel). Both words contain the word "me", which is very popular in Spanish because it means more or less "me". If you look a bit at English-Spanish and Spanish-English dictionaries, it will be easy to find lots of similar-sounding words.

EDIT: Another interesting example is that there is both a "lamparola" and "Carmelina" which is very similar sounding to "carmelina", the difference is that only lamps sounds nice while "Carmelina" is a girl. EDIT 2: In Italian Carmella has no translation. But, there are some words meaning "Carmel" Carmo - It means something like "carmel" but sounds more like a female name than a male name. Carda - It means "carmelite" but sounds more like a female name than a male name.
