What is a short name for Carmella?

I need to make a sign for my dog Carmella, but I don't know the name of her breed! What should I call her? Is it a collie or a lab mix? And if it's a collie, is it a standard collie or an herding collie? We are in the Bay Area of California. I don't have any other breed information other than that.

I know what she is by looking at her photos Answer by Tamm on May 1, 2014: I believe it's actually what they're calling doxies here in Texas. I would try using "doxy" Answer by Jessamie on June 25, 2014: Her official breed is a Doxie Mix, which is a combination of Dachshund and Labrador. The more you research her you will discover some amazing breeds that she may have crossed with. Here is a list of all the breeds that the author is not sure about in his answer:

Answer by Kelli B on September 22, 2014: Here is another site and here is one of the top 5 sites in the US where you can ask the breed question. This is the book I used to look up everything I needed to know and found that her full breed name was Papillon Labrador Dachshund Doxie Spitz Terrier. It really depends on where she is from.

How rare is the name carmella?

(No, I'm not being rhetorical. I really want to know. I've been trying to find out for years now.)

I don't have a dictionary or anything so it's kind of difficult for me to look it up. I don't think it is that rare as I've seen the name on some pretty mainstream books. But I guess it's kind of rare because there aren't too many carmelas out there.

What are your thoughts on this name? I'd like to use it for my character. "Carmella" and "Carmelo" are often confused. The former comes from the Italian name "Carolino" which means "Carol" and the latter is the Italian variant of "Karol." The first Carmelo I could think of was an artist, but I'm not sure if his name was used as a child's name.

I don't know if it is that rare, but it certainly seems so. I can think of at least one person with the name and a family who has had two generations of it, but I haven't done a lot of research into the name.

I know, it's a pretty popular name. I guess it's also very common with the spelling "Carmello".
