Why can't I connect to Netflix on TV?

Why can't I connect to Netflix on TV?

So I bought a Vizio TV today.

I have a Roku 3, and previously a Roku 2 XS, both worked fine, so it's not that. I've been messing around with the Netflix website to make sure the connection is OK, as I can't find any problems online, but I get the same error "We're sorry, your internet connection is not working properly. Please try again".

My TV is connected to my router (I live in an apartment block), which in turn is connected to ADSL, and when I try on my laptop it works fine, so it's not that either. I've got a different IP address than my router, and it's quite a long one, and I've tried changing the DNS, but I don't think that's the problem. Does anyone know what else I could try? I think it's a DNS issue. The IP address you have is a "static" IP. Static means that the DNS server will have that IP for all devices in that network.

If you want to use Netflix, I would suggest using a dynamic IP. This is a IP address that will change every time it's assigned to a device, so you won't be able to use the same IP from multiple devices at the same time.

You can request a dynamic IP address by setting up the device to receive DHCP requests from your router. You can use the utility that comes with your router to set this up.

To get your router to assign the same IP to several devices, use port forwarding. That way, you can connect your device to the router, and it will appear on the network as a device that is reachable on the public IP address that your router assigns to it.

In the past, I used to have a static IP, but if I wanted to share my streaming movies/TV shows, I'd use the dynamic IP address.

Can I watch Netflix on my smart TV from my phone?

The Roku mobile apps are the most powerful I've ever used, and while Netflix has yet to release a native app, I can still stream on my LG TV from my iPhone.

I have a Nexus 4, and a couple of apps to show you how it's done: Android appI didn't develop this one but the app was built by a friend. It works like any other streamer app; I select a Netflix movie or show on my phone, and the TV shows me what it's called and how to get to it on the app (a small button with a Play arrow on it). The app is free on the Play Store.

Android app with Google AssistantIn this app, the Google Assistant is fully integrated into the Netflix app. This means I can ask it questions, like "Who's in the Star Trek: Discovery cast?" for example, and the TV will immediately respond with the cast.

This app was built by my colleague Jason Concepcion, who did an amazing job coding it up. In our case, he made it work with the Chromecast as well as my Nexus 4. The app is also available on Android, so you don't need to buy the Chromecast that goes along with it. I recommend installing this app if you want to be able to ask your Google Assistant questions.

Both apps work by launching on the phone and asking for access, then accessing the TV's settings to tell the TV to let Netflix control it. All it took was selecting Allow, and the Netflix app has now replaced my Roku app and Hulu Live on the TV.

So, is it worth it? Absolutely. The benefit to this approach is that I can easily use my phone while I'm at home, no longer needing to pick it up off the couch to control something. Also, since I don't have a physical remote control on my kitchen counter, I don't have to fiddle with turning on the TV before it's time to watch something (or go to the bathroom), as I can simply say "Okay, Roku," or "Okay, Netflix.
