If the app had a bug that crashed your phone or prevented you from using the app properly, then it would be wise to just get the Play Store version back. If you are having stability issues with your ROM, or if it is an update that is causing issues, then you need to figure out how to resolve these issues. Either by updating or going to a custom ROM. If this does not work, it may be time to go back to stock ROMs until they are able to provide an update that does not cause issues. It may not be your ROM that is causing the problem, but your phone that is the issue.

Now in regards to your Play Store you have two options. Uninstall the application. Since you said you don't want to lose your account information you will want to make sure you can transfer your data to a new device.

Copy your data to the cloud. The only thing you will lose is your account. You should be able to create a new account on your new device.

It does mean the store is installed. The "google play" button is a shortcut for the store, and it's on the home screen.
