In reality, when you type www.com into your browser you get redirected to a different website. This other website usually has ads or offers that are only available in certain countries.

The ads and offers usually show the location of the visitor. For example, a visitor from Germany will see offers for products or services from Germany. A visitor from France will see ads for products or services from France.

For visitors from the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, the ads will be for products or services from the United States. All of this is possible because the DNS resolver leaks information about your IP address and/or location. How do DNS Leaks Work? The DNS resolver that is used by your web browser is usually provided by your ISP. They have set up the DNS servers to redirect you to their own websites or advertisements.

This means that your ISP can see what websites you visit. They can also see what IP addresses you use to connect to the internet.

With a DNS leak, the DNS resolver will leak this information. In a sense, they are passing this information on to third parties.
