Why do schools block settings?

Why is everything on my school Chromebook blocked?

Many schools use a student Chromebook to deliver access to the web, email, and other important school systems within the Google Apps for Education suite.

However, when a student uses a school Chromebook, the system will not allow them to access the internet. The reason is that the school's IT administrator has locked down the student's school Chromebook so it's not an option for accessing the internet.

The easiest way to get around this is to create an administrator account on the student's school Chromebook and grant access to the internet. Here's what you can do: On a Chrome browser on your school Chromebook, go to settings by tapping the three dots button in the top-right corner of the screen (Settings). Tap on applications and then click on Manage applications. Click on the arrow next to Google Chrome in the left pane. Next to Allowed apps, tap on Change. Select Apps with special access and select Add. Enter the following values (the path may differ). Path: /Applications/GoogleChrome.app Owner: @.edu Name: Google Chrome. The easiest way to create a user on your school's Chromebook without administrative permission is through TeamViewer. This tool will allow you to control the device from a remote location.

You'll need to set up a TeamViewer session on your own computer and then access the device from your computer. TeamViewer will then open up with a screen where you'll see your school's device listed under Other devices: TeamViewer also gives you some instructions on how to perform certain actions such as starting the search engine: To get started, either connect to one of your existing devices (it can be another computer or laptop), or you can simply pick the right device from the list on the left side. Then follow the instructions to get started! Once the connection is established, you can use TeamViewer to control your school's device with admin privileges.

How do I get into settings on my school Chromebook?

If you need to access your Google account or access the Chromebook's web browser, first make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or another Internet connection. Then, follow these steps: Tap on the Chromebook to open the menu. Click on Settings. Scroll down and tap on Google Account Settings. Under the Sign-In & Sync section, choose between "Sync across devices" or "Not Now". From the Sync across devices section, choose the default setting of "Sync across devices". Once you've selected the settings you need, follow the onscreen instructions. If you're a student, you may be able to use a personal device as an alternative to your school-issued device, but if you are missing the login information for your student account, this information is generally available in your Google account, either by going to a website linked to your Google account (for example, ) or by logging in to a personal device through your student's Google account. If you can't find the login information for your student account, contact your school's technology coordinator. They may have a record of the login information for your student account. If your student's school has disabled access to their personal device, they may have another student's device that you can use.

How do I unblock settings on a school Chromebook?

When I was at school, our Chromebooks were locked down so that we couldn't download or install apps from the Chrome Web Store.

We also couldn't install any apps from anywhere else because of the same limitations. We could only use web-based services from the Chrome Web Store and any apps we used were limited to whatever they gave us.

Today, you can get a Chromebook without any of these restrictions. However, the limitations on what apps you can install and where you can download apps from still exist. If you want to change this, it's easy. First, you need to get a new Chromebook.

Second, you need to turn off the restrictions by changing a setting in the settings menu. The first step is to get your new Chromebook. You can find them from the Google Store or eBay.

Once you get your new Chromebook, connect it to the internet and then start Chrome. On the top right, click the hamburger icon and select Settings.

In the settings menu, click Advanced under the System heading. On the next screen, scroll down to Apps and click Manage apps. Click Manage apps from sites in the dialog that pops up. On the next screen, type in a web address, like chrome.com/about and then click Add.

You'll now see an app icon appear in the bottom right corner of the Chrome window. You can remove the apps you don't want by clicking the x on the upper right corner. You can also additional web addresses to add more apps. For example, you could add google.com to add Google's apps and amazon.com to add Amazon's apps.

If you want to remove the Google apps, you can remove all the apps by clicking the Remove All link.

Why do schools block settings?

I have an iPhone 5S (iOS 7.1.2).

When I try to change the default settings for the "Cellular Data" option, so that it changes automatically (as suggested in this video), I get no options. When I select the "All Contacts" or "Emergency calls only" items, I get the same options and same issue (even if I restart the phone): no options in sight (apart from "Show All Settings"). The issue is not new since iOS 8 came out. I remember being able to get the desired setup using older iOS versions. I've been trying to get to a solution since then, but didn't succeed.

Has anyone found a solution? Thank you! P.s: It's okay to assume that I was using a jailbreak iOS prior to this new configuration (I was trying on my wife's iPhone, but her phone doesn't support an old iOS version). We're not discussing about a jailbreak right now.

It seems to be a iOS 7 bug as I'm able to change the settings without any issue under iOS 8 on the same device (just using the same process on the Settings app from "View Options.").

I'm curious, what did Apple make us do from an ethical standpoint when they block these settings to access cellular data? Are they afraid that we might have some kind of an "alternative" configuration (no offense meant) which would make it possible to save data money by turning off cellular data and use our phone like a modem with the phone number of our mobile provider? Because that's what we want. Does it make sense? We have no access to it through the stock options anymore. The last known method would have been jailbroken. This method stopped being possible on the latest iOS 7 release. It is very difficult to bypass Apple's changes and settings unless you've got an advanced knowledge of their security systems and techniques. Apple does a lot of research to try to make it near impossible to disable this feature.
