Why is Family Link not working on my Chromebook?

It's probably because you're trying to use Family Link on a non-Chromebook (not a Chromebook). You'll need to enable Family Link on your ChromeBook by following the steps below.

What is Family Link? Family Link allows you to share and manage your Chromebook or ChromeBook securely with family members, teachers, and friends. This is especially useful for children using ChromeBooks in classrooms or homeschool.

How do I get Family Link to work on my Chromebook? First, make sure you have Family Link enabled on your primary Chromebook. Next, connect your secondary Chromebook to your primary Chromebook over a USB connection. Then log into the secondary Chromebook by using your primary Chromebook's browser. The second Chromebook will display your primary Chromebook's name at the top of the screen, under My Devices. If you're not using the primary Chromebook at the time, tap the Log Out button. When logged in to your secondary Chromebook, you'll be prompted to agree to the terms of use by using your primary Chromebook's browser. You may also need to provide a secure password, and click Done. Finally, the primary Chromebook will display the message Your device is now in your Family. Why isn't Family Link working? If the secondary Chromebook can't connect to your primary Chromebook's network or it's being used by another person, then the secondary Chromebook won't be able to connect. What if I don't want Family Link? Family Link is optional. If you don't want Family Link, it's fine. You can still continue to use Chrome, as it's very similar to other operating systems. It's also possible to set up Family Link without having it enabled on your Chromebook.

To disable Family Link on your Chromebook, follow these steps. Open your ChromeBook's web browser (such as Chrome or Edge). Type in chrome://flags into the address bar. Scroll down to and tap the Disable Family Link toggle.

How to get Family Link parent access code on Chromebook?

I purchased a Chromebook using a Family Link enrollment code that was emailed to my home address.

I don't have any internet access in my home and need to get the parent access code for a Google family member in the future. Is there a way to do this?
In my experience, all Family Link enrollment codes are valid for one year. A Family Link user can add a new child on to Family Link at any time. If you need to do it, you just create a new account for the new kid, go to Settings > Devices & Family Link and add the new account as a child (the new account will have an icon showing it's a new child). Then you go to the same place and assign the old account as the child of a Parent.

The OP asked for how to get parent access code for his child. A Family Link enrollment code may be valid for one year, but that does not extend to having the parent have the code. You would need to find a different way to get the access code.

We have family members who are "sophisticated" users with access to FamilyLink. But I'm in my mid-30's and still don't have access, even though I'm signed up. I've contacted google to see if there is a way I can be "sophisticated".

I have a friend that lives with me, so I told her to start using FamilyLink and then transfer to her own email. I'm guessing the parent would just enter the password she uses in Chrome and it would be accessible to her. Can someone confirm that this works?

Why does my child's Chromebook keep asking for parent code?

The Chromebook I have at home is set up in the usual manner: Google account, WiFi login, auto-logins to Chrome.

I log in to my email and Google account from my phone and I am able to browse the web on the Chromebook with no problems. However, whenever my 4yo daughter has her Chromebook I have to enter her Google username and password to get past the splash screen and access the internet.

I have looked in the browser settings and can't find an option to change the required login. I have set a password for my Google account, but I don't know how to do it for the Chromebook. I don't want to change my Google account password on my phone so this option isn't an option.

What can I do to stop this happening? It's very frustrating. You have to create a Google account for your child. You can use any email address that you want.

There is a Google account already created for your child. If you log into your account, you can change the required login to your child's Google account.
