How do you reset a Chromebook that has been locked?

How do you factory reset a hp laptop if you don t know the password?

This is a common question on Ask Different and many other sites, as some of you probably already know.

Unfortunately, factory resetting the password for HP laptops can only be done when there are no bootable backup media available to restore the data. This post describes my procedure in detail.

First, it's best if you have the laptop with you when you decide to factory reset the hard drive. Also keep an external backup drive handy just in case.

I have a simple HP Spectre x360 and every time I try to factory reset it with F8, it takes about 20 or 30 seconds, then reboots into Windows. When it reboots I hit Esc to go into Safe Mode, but it never reboots into Safe Mode. Once it reboots into normal mode it works perfectly.

For this to happen it needs to be a brand new machine with Windows 10 installed. For all intents and purposes this laptop is a fresh start from the factory. It's brand new, so no data or personal information exists on the drive. In fact, the only reason why it took so long for me to figure out how to factory reset this laptop is because the only thing that existed on the drive was a Microsoft Account.

If you haven't yet installed Windows 10 on your machine, then just reinstall. With Windows 10 pre-installed, open Device Manager by clicking on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Add a new device, enter the Manufacturer Name as Hewlett-Packard, choose a Device Type as Motherboard. The Driver Software that I picked was HP ProDesk 400 G2 Driver. You will want to use the one that corresponds to your motherboard. Make sure that it is listed in the same section as the Manufacturer Part Number.

HP has built in recovery tools that you can use for a quick fix for certain issues. If you don't have a HP recovery DVD for the machine, then make sure to follow the steps that you can use to restore your laptop to factory defaults: From Device Manager, right click on any of the above items. Choose Update Driver. Choose Browse my computer for drivers.

How do you reset a Chromebook that has been locked?

You may be reading the documentation about how to get your Chromebook back online after receiving an LPO, locking the device, or having the power brick fail, and come across the document linked below.

You know what to do if you just received an LPO, but what if you already received an LPO and just want your Chromebook to work? Before you start resetting your Chromebook, you will want to determine whether or not the power supply is still functional. If the power supply is broken, then it would not be possible to use the recovery method outlined below.

Check the status of the power brick. If the power brick is the problem that is causing the Chromebook to fail to boot, then you can check the power supply's status using the following procedure: Disconnect the charger, HDMI cable, Wi-Fi cable, and battery from the laptop. Wait until the laptop fails to power on. Remove the motherboard, battery, and any other cables that are connected to the motherboard. Remove any packaging covering the motherboard. Examine the motherboard, and look for any cables attached to the power supply. Disconnect any cables that are attached to the power supply.

NOTE: Do not attempt this task until you have done all the previous steps. NOTE: If you cannot follow the steps described in this guide, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Once you have determined that the power supply is not the problem, proceed to the next step. Remove the motherboard cover. To remove the motherboard cover, unscrew four screws: two on each side of the front fan and one on the top. On the left side of the motherboard, remove the screws first, then repeat the steps on the right side of the motherboard. Once you have removed the screws, lift off the motherboard cover.

NOTE: When you lift off the cover, DO NOT let it drop. Note that there are a few screws underneath the motherboard cover (on the underside) that hold it together. If you encounter trouble removing these, be sure to let the motherboard cover fall to the ground, then pick it back up again.

Locate the four screws that secure the RAM. WARNING! The motherboard has been removed.
