Does Graston really break up scar tissue?
Should I try it?
Hello, everyone. I am new to this site and new to the area of my interest. For a few years now, I've had scars on my wrist and fingers from various cuts and an injury to my hand from being pinned and stabbed in a fight. Recently, my dermatologist has been urging me to go back to him for a consultation because the area on my right hand that had my wedding ring stuck into it broke down because of scar tissue. He told me that, at some point, he would break it up with a Graston machine and it would probably break up the scar tissue. Does anyone have experience with this technique and can tell me if it is something I could try. I do not want to damage or irritate the area where the wound is because, when it heals, it will leave a very ugly scar. Also, he said there is no guarantee that this will work, but he said it had worked for a few of his patients. Has anyone here used Graston or know of someone who has?
You've been in the army, correct? Or you know people who have? Either way, you've already figured out that most people don't get surgery when it comes to treating wounds. If it's broken down, it won't matter how bad the wound is, it'll need to be stitched up. The question isn't if it'll work, but how bad is it?
If you were able to find a doctor that uses it, then they're likely the best in the country. However, they may be a little overkill for your situation. But, if it's not worth getting it done properly to get rid of the scar, then that's what you're doing by trying it on yourself.
Thanks for the responses. I think, at this point, my dermatologist will not even do it unless I am willing to pay the fee he wants. But, if I just could get it done and not have to worry about anything else, it might be a good idea for me.
Is the Graston Technique safe?
A recent article in one of the medical journals has triggered a debate.
They reported that a patient underwent a treatment by the Graston Technique for her breast cancer and found the treatment safe, but after her recurrence they discovered a tumor beneath the skin of her chest. Since this kind of treatment is still experimental, they recommended patients who opt for the treatment to have an MRI screening before and after.
The Graston Technique is an in-office procedure that was developed in 1995 as a treatment for breast cancer in a clinical trial. The study of the method was funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and had some interesting findings.
The researchers said that there was little difference between the women who were treated with the Graston and those who were treated without it. Both groups showed a 30-40% reduction in tumor size, and all patients were given chemotherapy. However, the patients who were treated with the Graston technique had a much better response to chemotherapy. The researchers said that in 80% of these patients the cancer shrank within 4 weeks and in 60% of them the tumor disappeared completely by the end of the treatment.
However, the NCI team noted that the Graston technique might have a risk of the cancer reappearing, which was higher in patients who had not been vaccinated with the Herceptin drug. Furthermore, the Graston technique might affect the nerves which control the movement of the breasts. The researchers therefore recommended that all patients who opt for this treatment should get an MRI examination done before the treatment begins.
The authors of the article suggested that all patients who choose this method for breast cancer treatments should also have MRI examinations done at the same time. What about you? How did you respond to this information? What do you think about this new treatment? Do you think the Graston Technique is safe? Please Share! Related posts No comments found.
