Children love mysteries because it's fun and there's lots of excitement. A mystery novel is a lot like a real mystery. There are clues and the reader must use his or her brain and think about them carefully. And in this fast-paced world, that's very hard to do.

What is the Mysterious Benedict Society? Mysterious Benedict Society was started in 2025 as a web forum by several librarians with no interest in mysteries, but whose children did. They needed to find good mystery stories written for children. The first forum topic was "Mystery novels for 6-year-olds." The forum took off, and soon it was not just a few members' children, but many who found great enjoyment in solving the mysteries. What is your favorite thing about mysteries? Most children probably love them because they think that mysteries are exciting. It's true that they use their own reasoning skills to solve the mystery. That makes children happy because it makes them think! But mysteries are also very funny and fun. They're interesting because they make us question ourselves. How come he did that? Why does she want to hurt him? They're scary because they're often more complicated than any child can take on at once. Children need adults in their lives who can be with them and talk to them about the world around them, and that's what mysteries are really about.

Why do you think the series is still so popular? I think kids appreciate the fact that the mysteries are so much different from the mysteries that teens and adults enjoy, too. You can't just put a modern mystery on a shelf with a hundred other modern mysteries. Mysteries written for children must have lots of simple language. That means it has to be easy to understand for most children. As long as a child enjoys a book, there are probably at least one or two more that will be just as good.

Who would you say are the writers and illustrators who inspired you the most? I don't think there is anyone I know personally who influenced me. I've always loved all sorts of books.

What is the plot of The Mysterious Benedict Society book 1?

The Mysterious Benedict Society book 1 is the first book of a series of children's mystery stories that take place in a world inspired by the novels of Agatha Christie.

The first season of Mysterious Benedict Society was adapted from the first four books in the series by Trenton Lee Stewart. But at the beginning of season 2, the books have changed. (It wasn't always going to be this way; Stewart wrote about the change in his introduction for the new books, writing, I've been working on this series for ten years, and I knew at some point that this fifth book would be the last. But, as I look back at all that I've learned about writing over that time, I realize that I didn't have a clue.) In this book Benedict and the family live at their home in Paris, in the middle of it is found a mysterious letter which asks them to travel to somewhere at the edge of ocean. However Benedict never wants to be a writer.
