Why did Disney cancel Mysterious Benedict Society?
It's hard to overstate how much buzz the Disney Channel's Mystery, Inc.
show had a few months back. The network said it sold the first season of the show (13 episodes) in advance of its debut to a broadcast network. The first season, featuring the adventures of nine-year-old Ben and his friends (there's no clue as to what their ages are, because they're just kids, you know), was scheduled to premiere on December 7th.
The Mystery, Inc. DVD set came out November 27th. It sold out on Amazon.com within days. And it was about to go on sale at Wal-Mart stores on January 2nd. And as of today, the set has sold out there too.
There's a lot to like about this show. Kids, particularly middle school kids, will love it. It has that quality TV appeal - a show that's silly and fun and very relatable to anyone who ever had a crush on a friend. Plus, there's a good chance, at least for my kids, that their friends will be on it too. There's not a lot of Disney kid stuff like this around anymore, so it'd be great for them to experience it.
But Disney Channel has now officially cancelled it. Not one day later, mind you. In an interview with USA Today, Brianne Collins, executive producer of the show, said that she's been informed by the studio that the second season has been cancelled as well.
Now, I'm a Disney Channel fan. The channel, in fact, is part of my reason for writing this. I want to find out what I can about the show and whether or not it's worth the time, effort and expense of trying to bring it to the TV airwaves. So the first question I have is this: why? What went wrong?
It would be a hard sell to me. My kids would have loved this. Their little brother, however, might not have liked it as much.
The second question I have is: did Disney Channel do a feasibility test on the show before making this decision? And did it reach a negative conclusion? I don't know the answers to those questions. But I do know that if this show is cancelled, my kids' reaction will be that the Disney Channel has let them down. Which I'll take issue with.
Will there be season 3 Mysterious Benedict Society?
Hello everyone.
I was wondering if there would be season 3 of the Mysterious Benedict Society. The show has ended but I was wondering if it will be back.
Thank you very much for reading! You need to change your profile picture and edit out your twitter ID. A lot of people have gotten banned from posting because they don't change those things. Please do.
There has been no official word that the third season will be made. It is still a mystery what will happen in the future and if/when the second season is picked up again.
As it stands, the rights to it haven't reverted back to BBC America yet, as one of their show's was the first to go. And yes, they will definitely be renewed at some point. They've mentioned re-picking up other shows to help save money and time, so I imagine they'll find a way to do something with this show again. It could be a new full season or a mini-season or something in between.
There's a good chance the second season was never canceled. It was just postponed due to BBCA and PBS pulling their shows in the middle of the shooting schedule for the second season, which left the actors with little to no time to plan for the future of their characters.
So they probably shot the second season's episodes but just weren't able to air them until they had everything sorted out and had the rights to it back. But they will be shooting season 3 at some point.
I'm glad you noticed that, I just didn't know about that. I thought that would happen at some point and it's nice to know that they're going to make it back. I think that all these shows really need to be aired in order to make up for the loss of The Sopranos (although I love the fact that it never got an ending) but I can understand why BBCA and PBS decided to cut it off. It just makes sense to me that the last few episodes are going to be really short, so people won't be missing out on too much.
They're filming season 3 already, just not airing it until they get their rights back.
What happens at the end of The Mysterious Benedict Society Book 3?
I've been sitting on the fact for about two months now that the end of The Mysterious Benedict Society Book 3 is very close.
I know that I won't be able to share it with you until I have edited it. I'm waiting until a couple of things are done before I share it with you. I can't wait to tell you the end of Book 3. I want to share the fun I had writing it. But first, I want to share my favorite scenes with you.
Scene 1: When I Write. When I write, I sit at my computer and pretend it's Benedict. I pretend that he's telling me a story. I'm imagining that he's telling me all these things that he wants me to believe.
I'm Benedict. My name is Benedict, he says.
I know who you are, Benedict, I reply. And I know you are going to tell me a story about yourself.
Yes, of course. It's true. I am Benedict.
I'm glad that you can tell me that you are Benedict, I say. But I would like to hear your story.
That's right. We're not friends. You don't need to know anything about me. You just want to know everything that I tell you, and you ask me to keep my story secret. And I have to tell you everything that I have in my head.
Benedict, you should know that I'm not your friend. You have no reason to trust me. I just want to hear what you are going to tell me.
No, I do trust you, Benedict replies. No, I mean that you don't have any reason to trust me. I could tell you that I was your friend and I could make up a story for you.
Well, I know you're not a spy, Benedict says. I can tell that I trust you. I want you to understand how much I trust you.
