I don't know if you have been asked this in an official Synology form before but what I understand you are asking is: "Synology NAS does not have a Virtual Private Network, so I must download and install one on my Synology NAS?". Nope, it doesn't. You do need a VPN solution that is either integrated in the Synology NAS software, which means that you'll have to manage the VPN separately in the same software, or you'll have to install a separate VPN server/client, like OpenVPN, IPSec, PPTP or others.
