What is TeamViewer used for?
TeamViewer allows you to easily connect to remote desktops or servers from any computer over the Internet and control them, as if they were your local machine.
This is made possible through a simple application installation on the local computer, and configuration of the remote desktop in order to access it securely.
In this tutorial, I will explain the use of TeamViewer to support users in remote access to their computer, sharing files, folders or printers while protecting access through a password, in order to ensure a secure service. Users can get help solving problems, as well as check how their work is doing remotely. You can also monitor remote computers while avoiding the use of the mouse and keyboard. You can even control and manage multiple remote computers simultaneously from one computer.
TeamViewer is intended to let administrators control computers and devices remotely, and manage services and devices more easily. Some of the services which it can be used for include: remote assistance; Remote Desktop Services management; Remote computer administration.
TeamViewer allows you to simply take control of your remote computers remotely, without using your desktop. It lets you view all the desktop details, with an optional transparent full-screen view, and take control of remote computers as if you were there in front of them. It provides a simple, intuitive interface to connect to computers and other devices, regardless of location, making remote system management easier. Additionally, you can view detailed screens of your remote PCs from any computer with a web browser. The main advantage of TeamViewer is that you can access a range of tools and functions from any place you are, in another room in the house, or on a plane, for example. You do not have to use your desktop every time you want to control the computer remotely. You can run TeamViewer on most Windows 7, Windows XP, Vista, Win7, Mac OS and Android devices from your computer or mobile phone.
TeamViewer Setup. TeamViewer is developed to be very user-friendly and easy to install. The software requires no setup and you can click Install immediately. Once installed, you do not have to open and close TeamViewer on every session. TeamViewer stores data on your local drive which minimises network traffic while it is run. This means that TeamViewer works for Windows, Mac and Linux.
What is TeamViewer and is it safe?
I'm looking into setting up a home network for my family and I want to have an easy way to be able to connect with each other from anywhere.
I know about TeamViewer and that it is a remote control program but it also allows the user to install programs remotely on their computer without the need of a browser, which seems unsafe. Is it possible to use TeamViewer to install other programs remotely?
It's a great remote control program but also very dangerous, since most malware comes in packages called .exe files and not in programs like TeamViewer or Skype. (As far as we know, neither TeamViewer nor Skype is malware by definition.) That's why I recommend that you uninstall those programs before installing them on your target computer. To uninstall TeamViewer, just go to "Uninstall" in Windows Control Panel. And if you're using Vista/7, you have to do "Add/Remove Programs". If you installed some other programs using TeamViewer, then you'll have to do the uninstallation process of them as well. Good luck! (As far as we know, neither TeamViewer nor Skype is malware by definition.
Thanks for the reply, I'd just prefer to not have to go through the hassle of removing programs and reinstalling them over and over again. It's kind of a pain to keep doing this, especially when I'm trying to be prepared for the worst possible scenario with my family. Is there any way to simply disconnect my computer from the network or any other method I can use to keep the computers safe?
Sorry, but I'm not very good at describing it: TeamViewer is a remote control software which allows you to control another PC/Windows in realtime from anywhere in the world via the Internet. You have to install TeamViewer on the target computer first.
Can someone see my computer with TeamViewer?
My mom's computer was infected with malware and she needed someone to be able to remotely access her computer to fix the problem.
(she cannot be trusted with a computer at all and she would be easy prey for hackers) Her son uses TeamViewer. I know you can not send someone in to your computer, but can you see someone's computer from your computer.
No, and that's intentional. There's no way to get anyone in or out of someone else's PC.
But I don't even have that set up so. I'm out of answers.
KamranMar 3 '13 at 18:16. Yeah. But can he see your computer? He'll need to change some options on his computer to allow remote desktop connection. He could simply tell you that, but you still have to do everything else on your end. So it's really just a convenience thing, not a security one.

Yes, he sees your computer if you're sitting right beside him and he's using that same computer. Not so much if he's standing in some other room. In fact, you'd probably want to open the ports you use for TeamViewer so that they can't be opened from anywhere but your computer and/or server.
And since he doesn't actually own your machine or anything, the threat model is that either he'll break into it for himself or that he will break into your system for someone else. There isn't really much danger for him except from the potential trouble you run into if you're trying to give access to somebody else. If it's just for you and he's not doing anything dangerous (and he probably isn't), you should be fine as long as he can't physically do any damage.
So in short, no, you should be fine unless you're doing something crazy that would expose yourself to real risk, but there's no question that your computer and potentially your network are going to be vulnerable if he knows how to look around. You won't be able to see his desktop unless he opens the TeamViewer settings on his computer. If you can reach his computer through teamviewer, then yes you can see what he's doing. Otherwise it'll just say "Unable to connect".
Is TeamViewer no longer free?
I use TeamViewer frequently.
I also use it on my computers (Mac and PC). TeamViewer used to be free, but now it is not. Is this going to change in the future?
Teamviewer has always been free. As a comparison: Kaspersky/AVG used to be free for home use, but not anymore. Avast used to be free, but not anymore. McAfee used to be free, but not anymore. Bitdefender used to be free, but not anymore. The new version (9.0) now has a trial period which you can activate to test it out.
