Is there a way to permanently block an app from being downloaded?
My dev team would like to prevent "fanboys" of apps getting access to free or paid applications for the day.
There is no possible way without a jailbreak. An app can use private databases (and it should use them) to store data within your device. It will not be accessible from Terminal.app or any other third party app. There are apps that can provide shell access. But one can always script to run shell commands from these apps. Apps Terminal Scripting do make it easy to interact with an app via scripting and through environmental variables etc. In general, never open an application to write to data files. The application has its own sandbox and its own file hierarchy. They may use the standard directory hierarchy on your device, but they can also use common directories like Library /tmp /usr/local/.
Also, keep in mind that only the requested user/group can access your data. So as soon as you change the owner to root you have more access to the resources.
Is there a way to block apps on Play Store?
I have been a user of video streaming app called YugiohTV. I watch it everyday, sometimes still a little bit late (as usual). But this was a surprise to read a message that played during the notification area saying that they received some donation. Could someone kindly inform me why is this happening, as well as how to keep from next time? Thanks!
Re: ? Even though they most likely are indeed donations, I don't see you having control over that. Always best to let them know it's not your intent. I say this because we've seen what the music industry has become. If that happens with video as well, it's going to be troublesome.
I tried contacting them, to no avail. I'm trying to deal with my frustration having to live with this alert, which is a sufficient cause for concern.
I want to ask them why they couldn't discern an ordinary user like me, doesn't segregate users like this. Every month I'm having this alert, I factor that as a large chunk of my monthly earnings, and it's not right. This is a service which is free (often times pay per view), unlike other Apps I've downloaded which requires up front purchase. It's simply very wrong.
And if it becomes necessary for me to file a complaint to the FTC, then so be it. I need to speak out.
Ok, whoever registered this issue, report to the security team and let them handle it. I'm gonna side with jackie123 on this one. They knew exactly what they were doing when they sent out that feature. No real way to prevent their actions and all we can do is complain and get upset like you.
At the end of the day Audrey and his company has no obligation whatsoever to you, even if you're a paying customer. You do know you can see any app at any time right? I mean I can see mine whenever I want. So please stop getting so angry. You're not the only one who sees these things.
How do I restrict apps on Android?
My son has a tablet he loves in his room and it's pretty bespoke, with no parental controls. At the moment all he does is play Age of Empires 2 and occasional Steam games, but there could be any number of items that might be a problem (proprietary games and apps, browser plugins etc). How can I install a version of android with parental controls? Or is this an impossible/unworkable goal now?
Answer: You've escalated pretty deep into geek land here, when you go so far as to be concerned about installing Android von Google. Have fun on the googleplex, sir: ;) What you have described will require work, most likely starting by rooting your device. You could do something like this: root your phoneYour son does not want you to be bargaining on his phone like this:;). Basically restore nothing, leave the build that is currently being booted over and reinstall carrier bloat ware, timekeeping tracks, and you may eventually even load a third party, hackable OS on to your phone (and then reinforce the parental controls later). When I reboot my phone no longer shows live wallpapers, no more weather and no more network data because there are no applications configured in the right places on the home screen, therfore crash Alct time. What is the difference between regular skype and skype mobile? the latter is supposed to run IP calling (over 3G) but I am not seeing it in my Nexus 1 (verizon/android 1.5, haven't updated in a while and haven't updated skype, don't know what version they have). It doesn't appear to call anyone.
Skype for Android is nothing more than an application designed to communicate with Skype. In other words, if you immediately open a link for it or google skype mobile just like how you search normal skype you will get the same result. The previous information about it is incorrect.
I would suggest you uninstall the default one that comes with the operating system instead of using skype mobile would probably work better. The SkyDrive app needs to run all the time and take up my spot on the cell network so that even if I decide to use wifi at work everything works from its memory. I actually more frequently think "CD backup" then "File backup".
