Hey all.

I have an IG account (no one I'm connected to) that was used for posting/liking/reposting some pics from another account, which has since been deleted. For a few months now, I've been unable to login into my IG account to post anything. I've been trying to delete it via the app, but when I try, it says I have to contact support first. I have an old email address, so I sent them a message with an attached screenshot of what happens when I try to delete the account via the app. No reply yet. When I attempt to delete it through the website, it says:

"Deletion of your account is not possible. It is either in use or we are unable to process your request. Please try again later.

We are unable to process your request because the account is currently being used. You can try again after it is closed and deleted."

I'm afraid this means it's stuck in limbo and my old pics/etc. Are there and unlisted. Is there any way to get rid of this without a human contacting me?

I'm really not comfortable sending another message to them about it and waiting again. I'd prefer a more permanent solution if possible.

So I actually reached out to IG support and they told me to send them a request for information under their abuse report form, using the email address they have on file for my account. After a few hours, they told me they were still investigating, but would send me a message when they were done. I don't know if it's working since I'm waiting for that message and haven't heard back from them. If they do respond, I'll update.

My concern here is that if they're still investigating, then they might want to hold on to my account until the investigation is over. I don't know if they'll go with the default answer and just let me have it or if they'll deny the request. I also don't know if I'll even get a response from them, if it gets rejected by their system. But if they do respond and they keep it, then I really don't know how I'm going to go about deleting my account.
