What are the side effects of gua sha tool?
Gua Sha (also called gua sha therapy or stone massage) is a traditional Chinese massage therapy that uses stones to massage and stimulate the muscles of the body. The procedure involves rubbing or kneading the muscles with the hands, fingers, and sometimes a special tool called a gua sha tool.
Gua sha is not a medical treatment, but rather a complementary therapy used to reduce pain and improve health. Gua sha therapy is based on the belief that certain types of stones can help balance and regulate the energy flow in the body.
Gua sha tool is made of a single or double-sided stone which is held in the hand. The tool is used to apply gentle pressure, knead, and roll the muscles of the body. Gua sha tools are sometimes referred to as muscle massage stones or knuckle stones.
During a gua sha session, you can be completely naked or clothed; in either case, you will be covered by a towel. In the past, gua sha therapy was performed using a stone that was passed from hand to hand. Today, however, you will usually find that there is a gua sha tool attached to a hand-held massage device which uses a mechanical motion similar to a massage ball.
The main benefits of gua sha therapy include reduced stress levels, better circulation, increased blood flow, reduced aches and pains, increased flexibility, better posture, and improved immune function. Many people enjoy the experience of gua sha therapy and recommend it to friends and family. The procedure is safe when performed by trained practitioners. However, if you are concerned about the side effects of gua sha therapy, please be sure to speak with your doctor before scheduling a session.

Does a gua sha tool really work?
I'm not asking this as a skeptic just to find out what others think.
I use the sha tool in its entirety and I've tried to learn/do this exercise (mostly) for 15 years or so, including various kinds of meditation, etc. I have no idea how well these things really work. Just curious, though, what other people's experience and knowledge is with gua sha, particularly as regards the meridian therapy element.
(BTW, there were numerous questions on this forum about various techniques and how effective they might be. This post really is not another one of those. This post is merely to ask whether sha can really be said to work.)

When I was doing my training program it seemed that the 'meridian therapy' was only applicable to new clients. After the initial sha it had no real effect on chronic fatigue cases. I can't say this is true for any one person though. I still believe it does help to detoxify an individual but it is also a tool for managing stress in the work place for example.
Interesting.
Does a gua sha actually change your face?
I had asked my friend (she is a beautician), if she could give me a gua sha - or massage for my face, in hopes that it would change the appearance of my cheeks. She's good at this, and she knows what to do. After a couple of treatments, I was pretty sure that she must be skilled in the job.
The treatment room is comfortable and quiet, except for the machine buzzing away. As she started massaging my face, it felt like someone put their fingertips on my entire jaw area, and they were massaging the muscles of my face really well. I couldn't believe it, even though I am not lying here talking - this was a very real situation. It wasn't something you see in the movies, either.
She massaged each and every place where there were problem spots, and then proceeded to make it perfect! After 10 minutes of rubbing, I looked in the mirror again, and felt so happy. My jawline and skin was perfectly shaped. I looked pretty good. Even my skin started to glow.
I told her to go fast, and that I wanted to look just as I do now in about 10 years time. She did look at me carefully, and then said that I should have come in sooner, because it would have worked. It wouldn't take more than 2-3 months for my facial structure to change, with a few sessions of a gua sha.
Then my mind started thinking, and I thought - how long will it take for my jawline to become perfect, or how long will it take for it to change? Will the jawline change by my 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's? Maybe in the 90's? And I felt bad for that guy called me - just about to get married. Would he ever know how beautiful he looks when seeing a new bride stand in front of him? A jawline that has been changed is probably a great thing for a marriage. Especially for guys that want to have a successful relationship.
So why did I want to get it altered, and changed from how it looks today? Well, I am still going to be getting gua sha treatment every single year, until I hit middle-age!
How long does it take to see results from gua sha?
Gua sha is a simple but powerful tool that helps to strengthen and rejuvenate your connective tissues.
It is used in conjunction with acupuncture for better results, the gua sha session itself takes 5 - 20 minutes and can be applied on any tissue such as fascia, muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, glands or blood vessels. Gua sha is performed for the whole body, but for greater and more effective results it should be targeted on specific areas. For example you can massage your legs or back. To get the most out of a Gua Sha session try massaging the skin for a better result. Your massage therapist will know the best time to add and stop for each area. We also recommend using Gua Sha after a deep tissue massage to stimulate the nerves and tissues and bring your body back to a healthy state.
Gua sha is safe to practice on yourself and even pets. As Gua sha improves the circulation of blood and lymph fluid in the skin, and stimulates detoxification it is a very effective treatment for toxins. During the massage, your massage therapist will ask if you would like her/him to use Gua Sha to target areas that you find troubling.
The best results from a gua sha treatment will be achieved if you are regularly practising the technique yourself at home. The process of getting a better result from your gua sha sessions is quite straightforward; once you have mastered a few basic moves (gua sha), you can repeat the gua sha routine. However, the secret of good gua sha lies in your hands as the key to a good performance is to relax and be completely natural.
What are the benefits of gua sha? Gua sha improves skin health and its elasticity. This improves the flow of lymphatic fluids and decreases the absorption of waste materials in the body. It stimulates circulation and helps the muscles to return to their relaxed state. Gua sha has been used successfully for centuries as a form of massage. It relieves pain in many cases, as well as helping to speed the healing process. Gua sha improves the immune system, fights inflammation and increases the metabolic rate. In general, gua sha is excellent for toning, cleansing, invigorating and promoting relaxation.
