What is a joystick used for?

Do joysticks still exist?

"I see no reason to ban joysticks unless it comes to an extreme situation.

For example, some games are not playable without them due to being designed for such devices.

"No, they don't - because it's a controller made of plastic that was only meant to be used with the PlayStation. I was playing with one a few months ago, using my PlayStation 1. And there were times when I felt bad as I was holding an ordinary controller, that was so bad. It would have felt awful if I had gone home carrying a controller that had an ordinary design.

"I think all consoles should be the same size, and I want to play games on TV, with a controller in a single hand. I am sure this game will be easier with two controllers. But if you were to compare a controller for the PlayStation, a Nintendo, and a PC. We feel that the controller for the PlayStation is the best."

What next for gaming? "You can definitely imagine that people will go beyond that, looking beyond that. We have no idea where that might go. What we need to do is look at today's hardware. The next gen hardware already exists, and it is coming - but we need to look at today's controllers."

With this thought in mind, maybe next week or the week after, Nintendo could release what is referred to as "mini-console" which will contain everything you want out of a portable gaming system - a touchscreen, touchpad, motion sensors, maybe gyroscope sensors (for movement detection) and an HDMI connection. The "Mini-Console" will be built to take advantage of these sensors.

So what's happening? "It depends on the day, really - we are making things based on what's being announced. Today, something was announced, so we decided to include that - but the plan for the final product would be dependent upon what's being planned for future products. This is to say that nothing is set in stone. If you ask me about what it will be, I won't be able to tell you anything definite - but it's quite possible to imagine that it's going to happen.

"And if you'd like to compare Nintendo 64 - we just didn't launch for eight years! Of course it is tough - but with the right products, it can happen.

What is a joystick used for?

Is it used to play games, or is it a "gaming" input for video games?

(I assume the former) If that's the case, how do you connect the joystick to a computer?

Why would one want to connect it to a computer? If you're running a game, I suppose you can do a gamepad (if your machine has that), or you can use a keyboard or mouse, but I don't see why you'd connect a joystick. To answer your question, a joystick is a way of controlling the position of a game character in a 3-dimensional space. The user can move the character around the three dimensions using the joystick. There are a number of different types of joysticks available on the market and the one you pick will depend on what games you plan to play.

There are a number of games that don't need the joystick functionality, but that doesn't mean they don't use the joystick hardware to help with some other aspect of game control. For instance, in games like Halo or Unreal Tournament, the user can control the movement of the character by using a keyboard and mouse. But if the player wants to change the direction of the character by moving their left hand to the left of the game, the controller will actually move that character in the appropriate direction.

In short, a joystick is a way to control an object in a three-dimensional space. If you're playing a game, you'll need a joystick, unless you want to use a keyboard and mouse. "To get good at anything, try to do it every day for a year." - Ken Schwab A joystick is an input device that uses a joystick to translate physical movement of the joystick into the control of the game.

Which brand is best for joystick?

Hi, I'm going to buy a little joystick, I'm looking at the Taito Super Shot and a couple others.

The cheapest of them all is the Amstrad Super Shot, but I thought it wouldn't be very nice. Does any body know if this brand is of any good? And what should I expect from price to price?

I have the same joystick for my Amiga 500 and can recommend it. It is not as nice as you might want, because the switch (the main part) needs quite a lot of force on/off ,so you cannot pull it off the machine with 1 hand, so you need a second hand to do that. But if you pull it on then it works very good for about 5 minutes.

It is a double switch with 6 buttons in total. It took a bit of a googling but its the same name/model as the NES controller and thats the exact model the guy in the Amiga 500 thread has which works really well! If your looking for a joystick it will best to do some extensive searching and come up with a list of what you have to choose from. As I said I had to dig a bit with mine, but it certainly works well, although not perfect with your Amiga.

I have both the Super Shot and Amstrad Super Shot II and use them exclusively. They are almost identical, apart from the finish of the button covers on the Amstrad are greyed, rather than coloured.

They have exactly the same six buttons and the switch. They both work pretty well with the Amiga and you can see from this forum thread, that they all work equally well with most of the Amiga models. They are definitely cheaper, less expensive joysticks than some other brands on the market.

I would go for the brand that has more positive feedback about it. Amstrad and Super Shot had excellent satisfaction reports on their respective support pages.

Both joysticks I have taken regular cleaning as part of their maintenance regime. I also used them with the Atari ST as well.

There will be little difference in price in between them. What may be worth noting is that both Joysticks come with a 12 month warranty. Also, for the amount of work being done on it, Amstrad is currently offering their Super Shot II on a 3 for 2 promo on amazon.uk.

How old are joysticks?

I was going to say that they were invented in the 60's, but it seems like they've been around for a long time.

I'm wondering how they got started and what their development has been. Is it even possible to get a joystick that hasn't been modified in the past 50 years?

Here's a quote. The first joystick, called a Control-Tab or Control-Tabula, was developed by Howard Davidson and William F. Tompkins in 1956. Ritty, was introduced in 1957 and marketed under the name "Astro Joystick". Ritty, was introduced in 1957 and marketed under the name Astro Joystick. Prior to this, joysticks had been used as pointers on cathode ray tubes since the 1930s.

Before that, Joysticks had been used as pointing devices for telephones. Telephones had been invented around the year 1880. The first patent for a telephone was filed in 1876, and the first working telephone was installed in 1880.

There was another invention before the telephone, the telegraph. A telegraph is a device that transmits electrical signals over wires. The first patent for a telegraph was filed in 1846, and the first working telegraph was installed in 1851.

It turns out that the telegraph and the telephone are unrelated inventions, but they are similar in that they transmit electrical signals over wires. The inventors of these devices were probably unaware of each other's work, and they were only a few years apart. It was not until the 1930s that the two devices became linked.

A joystick is just a modified telegraph that transmits electrical signals over wires. A telegraph uses electrical pulses to transmit messages. The electric pulses must be able to travel through the wires. The wires can either be a metal wire, or a wire made of glass fibers.
