What happened to Spokeo?

- or, The new and future social web and its impact on business

After the company's IPO it was a very busy week at the Social Media Summit here in NYC.

As I was heading down to the hotel from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) offices I passed the Spokeo building and stopped to talk with the street people outside. After that I stopped at another Spokeo location just around the corner from their NYSE offices to catch up with another Spokeo employee. During the last several months it seems that Spokeo has not been very visible anywhere, so when I heard from these employees I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of talk going on about the future of the 'social web', the future of business, and how both are going to change as they try to find their place in the modern world. So this is the story of , or at least what I think happened. And I know one thing for sure. The more I talk about this, the more I hear about 'the future' from people who are talking about what they see for the 'future' and the business of the future. I wonder what we are to each other as we try to find our place in what the future brings.

The first Spokeo. In the late 1990s a small collection of academics, entrepreneurs and futurists started talking about a new type of data-driven online tool. They described what they saw as this new data-driven tool that would allow you to make intelligent decisions online. These people included Howard Rheingold, one of the early pioneers of the 'social web', as well as Danny Hillis, who later went on to work at Intel. They envisioned a new type of online space that would give us access to our own data online so that we could use that data to make intelligent decisions based on it.

Around this time, some of these people had just come off of the project teams at one of the early Internet 2, or InterNIC, projects. Some of the other participants in those InterNIC projects had been working on the concept of a social web long before all of this came together in 1999. In the early 1990s an early research group started to explore the idea of developing a new kind of 'semantic web' where any document on the web could be tagged using keywords and descriptions.

Can I look up someone for free?

I'm sure there are lots of sites that offer such services, but I was wondering if there's any sites out there where you can search for someone and their phone number.

For example, if I wanted to call a certain celebrity for free, how would I do it? I'm interested in doing this on a website because I'm not interested in paying for a service like this. So, if you could provide me with the necessary information to do this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

If anyone is aware of such sites, please let me know. I don't know much about how to find people via the web.

Hi, I have had a look around on the internet and haven't found anything, but you might be able to do it by getting their numbers off social media (you may have to pay for them). You can also try doing a google search using the person's name.

The problem is that the results are all from a different time period so it would be very difficult to be 100% certain if the number was still the same. I suppose there is nothing to stop you trying to call that celebrity, but at least you'd know if they changed their number or not. I would recommend using a service like Twilio as they will make calls for you without any issues. However, you may be restricted to only calling the US. If you're willing to pay for the service, you can use the service for international calls too.

I was just talking about this a few days ago with a friend, I think we both have the same idea in mind. My idea was going to be something like "call this number for free" and then it would ask for your email and let you contact the person that way. However, I was thinking that there should be a website that could search for a phone number and allow you to find the person's email and phone number.

That is really interesting because I hadn't thought about that idea. And, it seems to be more like a service than a website. So, I'm assuming that people would pay for it instead of just using a service like Twilio.
