In the Star Trek canon, what is the first Vulcan to join Starfleet?

I know T Pol (Vulcan) was in the original series, but does he count? T Pol would be the first Vulcan to appear in the Star Trek universe. However, he did not appear in the original series. In the TOS movies, however, he appeared in one of the sequels, The Voyage Home.

As for the canon, the first Vulcan to appear in the Star Trek canon is Spock in the TOS episode, "The Naked Time". It's also mentioned in TOS, "Amok Time". In the animated series, he appears in the episode "Is There in Truth No Beauty?
It's a bit late in the series to mention Spock in "The Naked Time". By that time, Kirk had already been captain of the Enterprise for years.

I'm not sure if he's canon, but I think it's worth mentioning that Spock was the first Vulcan to make an appearance in the Star Trek universe. In TOS, there are a number of references to the Vulcan greeting and language, but no mention of the first Vulcan joining Starfleet. It would be nice if they could explain this somehow in the show itself.

The first episode of Season 3 is called "T Pol" and it has a new look. The T Pol-era design has been replaced with something that looks like it could have come from The Phantom Zone.

In other words: it looks like this: Well, not quite. The colors are different, the lines aren't so straight and there's a lot more going on under the hood.

While we're at it: here's what Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3 all look like now. There's a lot of changes, but I'm going to focus on just the T Pol design.

Also, in case you missed it, I've updated the T Pol design with the Season 3 colors, too. A few things to know before we dive into this. First: when I say "T Pol", I mean the original T Pol design from Season 1. That design has been retroactively referred to as "T Pol-era" ever since, but that's just wrong. The new T Pol design isn't retroactive. It's new.

Second: I haven't watched any of the episodes yet. This is based on screencaps and analysis of screenshots.

Third: some of these changes are pretty obvious, some aren't. I'll start with the obvious ones and then move onto the not-so-obvious.

Let's take a look! Let's start with the head. In Season 1, the head had a blue color scheme. This season, it looks like a yellow one.

It looks like they went to great lengths to get this just right. There's a slight curve on the forehead, an indentation to the nose, the mouth is slanted down and the eyes have a much more angular shape.

The skin tone on the back of the neck has also been adjusted. In Season 1, it was red, but this season it's a light blue.

And for the nose, the nostrils are open. They weren't in Season 1.

There's a new hairline above the eyebrows and a bit of a reshape to the overall shape of the face. There's a little more bulk under the chin in Season 3. And, there's a line just below the eyes.
