How do proxy addresses work?

What is ProxyAddresses field in Active Directory?

I am new to Active Directory.

I am trying to understand why do we require ProxyAddresses attribute in the Domain Controller configuration. I have a doubt that ProxyAddresses is for some security reason or some other need?

You might not want a real Internet IP address in your address book of DCs on your network. In this case you set a proxy address, like the local loopback address (127.0.1) for all your DCs. When an Active Directory client connects to AD, it uses the IP address of the DC as the proxy.

Where do I put proxy address in Active Directory?

I have a Active Directory with several domains, sub-domains, OU and users.

which is a common layout. In every domain I have a network account called "MyDomainproxyAccount".

Now I want to add the proxy address of my clients computers to the Active Directory. Which settings should I use in the "Proxy address" field in the Users and Groups section? If you are in a forest that uses Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) then you have to use the Proxy Address attribute. If you are not, you can use the "Use Proxy for all users" option, but it will not be configured in ADFS. See this Technet article for more details.

How do I add a SMTP proxy address to Active Directory?

I am trying to set up an Active Directory (AD) on an Internet facing web server for a company in Japan. There is a mail server in the USA that our email will be coming from. The mail server in the USA can't send or receive emails because of an old virus problem. To remedy the situation we have decided to send all mail through a SMTP proxy server in Japan. My current plan is to have my AD server act as the SMTP proxy and use an IP address in the range I need (it is possible the range will be changed).

My question is, how do I configure the AD for this? I've tried the following configuration (below) but it doesn't seem to work. I'm receiving the error below.

I'm getting an error when trying to configure the default SMTP Proxy settings in the domain controller. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or point me in the right direction? Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Here's the screenshot of the error I'm getting. I added this code to the DC config tool. I had it running in the GUI but it didn't get anywhere.

I'm trying to use my AD to send email through a smtp proxy server in Japan. I'm having a lot of trouble getting this to work. I'm pretty sure I'm missing something but I don't know what. The error I'm getting is below. I've been banging my head against a wall trying to get this to work for two days now.

Thanks for your help! The error is telling me that the default SMTP Proxy settings were not properly configured on the domain controller. The screenshot of the error is below.

Sorry, I was referring to the default SMTP Proxy settings. Yes, I did notice that. However, I'm still getting the same error message. I'm not sure if the settings are what's giving me the error or not.
