If the client has a different name (without the .ovpn extension) or is missing a .key file, it will still work but you won't be able to use the tunnel, so be sure to test your .ovpn config files before trying to set it up.

Once you have verified your config files, you may get a warning saying that the server needs to start. OpenVPN looks for a certificate in the server when it starts up. You can use your preferred key files instead of server certs. See the documentation for more information.

Also, you may get a warning saying that the client needs to start. The message looks like this: Your certificate file is not trusted! The certificate was issued by an authority that is not trusted for root certs.
