So in early 2025, Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music and EMI music labels all had various actions taken against their websites and services because of the site, such as using the sites to view copyright protected material without payment or permission. And with those four labels, the cost of pursuing such actions was only worth about 8 million, meaning that each of those labels are set to bring more cases against similar sites to try and obtain even more from those sites.

That said, if you go by these major labels and their costs to bring such actions, you would imagine that the cost would be far less than those sites' revenues. However, Popcorn Time has yet to be found guilty of any wrongdoing. And the other reason that they're still going after the site is because of the threat Popcorn Time presents.
