Can you scrape an oven to clean it?
What's a common household tool?
Answers. We use the oven to cook the chickens we raise. We used to have a gas stove but the pilot went out when the boiler gave out. Now we use the oven, but we have a propane burner, so it runs out of propane at times. We clean the oven out by placing a cast iron skillet with the holes of a colander on the bottom of the oven, filling it with hot water, and scraping the inside with a spoon or putty knife. We keep the door closed while this is going on. The water evaporates in the oven and the last thing we do is use baking soda to scrub the inside of the oven. When we are done, we pull out the skillet and drain the water. Sometimes we end up with some baked-on stuff that is hard to remove. We then use a paper towel to dry the inside of the oven and wipe it down. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it is very effective. The old oven stayed clean for 6 years!
You can use a broom or sweep. I like to use an old broom with a hook on the bottom to pull the mess out. If you don't have an old broom with a hook on the bottom, just use a piece of wood. I've used a piece of 2x4. If you don't have that, any old broom or hoe will work.
We have a gas oven, so we use a spray bottle full of water, plus a sponge, to clean out the oven. We scrape the inside of the oven with a metal or wooden scraper and wipe the inside of the oven with a rag. The trick is to make sure you don't let the water in the oven get too hot. I learned this the hard way once when I used hot water in the oven. The oven door was scorched on the inside.
I am not sure what you mean by "scrape the oven". Most ovens have a removable element that can be lifted out and removed and the cooking elements can be wiped down. If there is any sticking on the inside of the oven, you can use a long handled spoon to reach the corners and scrape the inside. It does require practice to find the right angle and to scrape off the stuck stuff, but it is doable.
I'd say your oven would be a high end one.
