How do I fix permissions denied on Mac?
I'm trying to set up an account on my Mac and I keep getting "Permissions denied" when I try to do anything.
The problem is that I don't know where to begin to troubleshoot this problem.
I've tried running the Disk Utility in recovery mode and also have run the Disk Repair and the Disk Utility has found nothing. Any ideas on how I can begin to troubleshoot this problem? The first thing to do is to take a deep breath. You're going to lose some stuff, that's all there is to it. This isn't a Windows machine and there are a lot of things that could be wrong here.
What are you trying to do? Are you the only user of this computer? If not, what permissions are you missing? In other words, what are you trying to do? What do you mean by "permissions denied"? If you can't log in because you can't create a home folder, that's a pretty fundamental error. In that case, start from the beginning.
Log into OS X as your user account. Create a new account for yourself. Try to log in with that account. If that doesn't work, maybe log in as the guest account? If you still can't log in, you might be able to run Terminal and login with that account from there. If you're stuck at the login screen, you can restart from the recovery partition (hold Command-R at startup) and choose the option to repair permissions. If you're stuck at the login screen, you can press Command-R at startup to boot into the recovery partition and repair permissions.
Why is my Mac not letting me access websites?
I've recently set up my Mac, but whenever I try and access certain websites, it tells me "this website could not be opened because it contains an embedded Adobe Acrobat Reader component".
It's only doing this for certain sites, not all of them.
When I type in the address bar, the first few characters work fine, but when I get to a specific character, it tells me there is something wrong. Any ideas as to why? Why is my Mac saying I don't have permission?
Last night my computer was running normally.
Then it locked up, which is unusual. The time was set to 7:00 a.m. When I logged in this morning, which I thought was early because it's 7:00 a.m. Right now. But when I restarted, it said that I didn't have permission. And then it wouldn't allow me to access any files. It was like everything froze. There was no command line. I had to restart it.
Is there a way I can boot to my old file system? I don't remember what was on it last night, and I didn't write anything new to it. It was just a document showing the days of the week. I don't even know how to find out if my old file system is intact.
I did a hard reset last night, and there was a window that appeared. The time on it was 5:43 a.m. The screen said, "You have to log in to do anything with this computer." I don't think I even have any user account set up. Can I log into my old user account? The only thing I know of is the user name is "sheri." Is that how I log into it? And why is it telling me that I don't have permission? This doesn't make any sense. I'm going to sleep for a while. If I don't wake up by 6:00 p., I'll try to come back and see if I can fix it, but I probably won't be able to. Thanks for any help you can provide.
