Does Chromecast have a DAC?

What is the audio resolution of Chromecast?

This will not be answered by any of the questions on this site, since it's up to Google how you are allowed to record audio.

In the past, a device was simply plugged in and used as a speaker if nothing else existed. Now it's treated more like a receiver.

The resolution of Chromecast audio can be determined by looking at your network router. A network capable Chromecast is connected via Wifi, which requires 802.11n connectivity. The default maximum number of devices that can be connected via Wifi is 4, so that's the best you can do with Chromecast, assuming it's running on the same router as your other devices. You can find out more about your router in settings -> Network Setup.

The resolution of your router, is determined by your Internet service provider. You'll need to call them and ask what the current maximum number of devices is supported. It will vary from ISP to ISP.

What is HDMI CEC and why do I need it?

We break it all down, with the help of a Chromecast-equipped demo car and some fancy dongles.

Back in June, Google unleashed a new piece of hardware - the Google Chromecast. Rather than streaming from your smartphone or laptop to your television, the Chromecast allows you to stream from any HDMI source, whether that's an Android smartphone or tablet, iPhone, Chromebook, Fire TV, Roku player, Apple TV or PC or Mac running Windows 8.1 or later.

The simplicity of this device and the idea that you can hook it up to whatever source (even your gaming console) is pretty great. So, we got a hold of Google's own demo car and got stuck into some of the features and functionality. The best part is, if you aren't already a Chromecast user, all you need to get started with this inexpensive little device is the new Chromecast Ultra - it has a 1080p display, making it more capable for streaming content to a larger display such as a larger TV.

The Google Chromecast: An Infomercial. As with a lot of these tech products, the biggest selling point is, of course, the price point. When you compare what the Chromecast is to a set-top box that is going to require a remote control, it is an attractive proposition for many people. Google makes it really simple - once you've bought the Chromecast, the only extra cost you incur is buying your media from Google Play. As for the rest of the world, Netflix is the main provider of media but we'll touch on other options such as Google Play Movies.

The design itself is minimalistic and stylish with two speakers at the front. You plug it in to the back of your TV using the supplied HDMI cable and a USB power cable. At first, you get an error message - that's fine, everything will eventually work out as long as you remember to plug it in - that said, a lot of users are experiencing problems with the device working at the beginning. It's a bit like the iPhone when you buy it - you expect everything to be instantly good but you have to work around little bugs.
