What is RescueTime used for?

What are the cons of RescueTime?

Is it free or paid?

The cons: There are several known issues with the application, the most frequent and annoying being the failure of notifications to appear. These problems can occur at any time, but are usually much worse in the middle of the day when a user may need to be notified that things are not going as planned, ie the computer is locked and will not boot for X minutes. Additionally, it appears that notifications stop working sometime during the week. Sometimes the notifications appear, while other times they do not. This is a huge bug that was never fixed. I have also observed some notification messages get stuck on the screen after they pop up. Finally, the program does not allow you to configure the application to run and interact automatically after logging in from a sleep state, so notifications must be allowed manually. To add insult to injury, the application's own logs make an awful job at conveying this important information in a clear manner. The main menu contains two options-- "Configure Schedules," and "View Activity Log." While it has "Configure Schedules" for setting up the applications work hour schedules, it has absolutely no documentation about what these options mean and why they need to be configured, which is totally confusing. If someone wants to understand what they mean, they will just need to contact the creator of the program. However, there is a great "View Activity Log" option if you really, really want to know what has happened to your system. As for me, I found this option very informative, so I highly recommend the full version of this software. Overall, I think RescueTime is a great product that helps to improve my personal life by enabling me to plan my life ahead of time. But this kind of bug--not showing notifications or showing notifications but getting stuck--is not something you can plan for. (As a side note, while on Linux I got a good number of "Notification blocked by your anti-virus program!" messages, which was annoying, but not terrible problem to resolve.) My rating of RescueTime is an 8 on a scale of 10. I wish to thank them for a fast and pleasant experience with their software.

3 out of 5 - Excellent. I would recommend this to a friend. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
