Does DIRECTV STREAM have different packages?

I was looking for the cheapest package to get a HD receiver and DIRECTV (this was going to be a gift to my son). I am confused on the price difference between the Direct TV receiver HD receiver and the DIRECTV box for an extra monthly charge. The two options that I have are a HD receiver or a DIRECTV box with HD receiver. Which one do you suggest and why?

Personally, I'd go with the basic "directv" for the 2 receivers, that is what I had last year for about a year and got great picture and sound from HDTV. I have a basic "DirecTV" plan. When my DVR is ready in January, I may choose the "DirecTV with DVR" plan.00 per month for cable.
