Is Aloha a Chinese Browser?
I've been using Aloha since its inception in 2023. Since then, I've been disappointed with its stability, the frequent updates, and its lack of any sort of a built-in RSS reader. But if you want to know what's going on in the world of Chinese browsers, Aloha is the one to watch.
I recently discovered that Aloha, which for a long time has been widely thought of as a China-only browser, is in fact being used by many users on the mainland, in large part thanks to a new mobile browser from Baidu called BaikeBrowser. (For those who aren't familiar with it, Baidu is the largest Chinese search engine.)
Why is Aloha suddenly getting so much attention from the U. And European Internet community? After all, it's been out there in the U. For almost 10 years and has been available for PC users for more than a decade. The reason lies in the arrival of BaikeBrowser, which gives Chinese Internet users a new way to access the Web.
Like many other popular Chinese browsers, BaikeBrowser is based on a version of the Presto WebKit browser engine that is being used by Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Like them, it can be used on PCs, Android phones, and iOS devices. BaikeBrowser is also based on Aloha, meaning that all of the features of Aloha speed, stability, and ease of use are all present.
It's also available as a mobile version for Android and iOS devices. It can be used for Web browsing, video watching, and more.
There are many things that set BaikeBrowser apart from its competitors. For one, BaikeBrowser is free, even though it supports some functions that other browsers don't, like an address bar and bookmarks. It's also open source, which means it's available for anyone to download and modify.
In addition, BaikeBrowser is backed by a major Chinese Internet company called Baidu. That's important because many Chinese Internet users look to Baidu for guidance when they're looking to browse the Web. And since Baidu is the largest Chinese search engine and has a huge number of users, Baidu's backing has a big impact.
Is Aloha Browser safe to download?
I have been downloading and installing Aloha Browser since last year. Aloha has a lot of features and functionalities like offline functionality, password management, secure browsing etc. The browsers have many features like popups, cookies management, etc. I wanted to know whether you can trust the browsers download site on the internet.
Re: Aloha Browser safe to download? The short answer is: 'no'. Even if they did not try to hide anything, I don't know that this specific browser project will be around for much longer anyway. The team behind it does not seem to have any concrete plans for its future. Its code base is completely outdated (especially its add-ons repository) and most of its key add-ons are being worked on by third parties with their own agendas in mind.
If one downloads a binary from somewhere, they risk getting a binary that has been built at some time in the past and is still using a very out-of-date version of the browser code, which is what is causing your problems right now (a dead link). A browser built in the current development version of Electron will not have these kinds of issues because all of the code is built to use the latest Electron APIs, which means this version of the browser will keep pace with the latest Electron version. However, it has yet to be released and you are probably better off installing one of the various pre-alpha builds. If you do want to keep your browser open to developing new features, you should really try to use their git branch of Electron. It's still very unstable and requires that you build it yourself but it's the best place to track development progress and see if they are actively trying to address your issues.
A big warning about what people tend to do with these pre-alpha builds is that they also tend to install them directly into their home directory rather than creating a profile and moving all of their old settings and data over to it when updating their system. If you do plan to stick with an outdated version of Electron to get that browser working, this is something that you should not do on Linux because these pre-alpha builds have a tendency to corrupt your Linux user data so you end up locked out of your system when you update.
On Windows, they create a new Windows User account when installing them so there's no problem here.
