How do I know if my SSL certificate is valid?
If you have an SSL certificate installed on your website you can view the status of the certificate by looking at the web pages.
By default, if you visit in your browser, it should display a message like "Secure Connection", or possibly "Unsecure Connection" if your browser is configured incorrectly. You may also be able to view the certificate for your site directly on the SSL certificate service providers' website.
You may notice that your certificate has expired if you are getting this warning. If your certificate was previously issued by the CA, it should not have expired. Typically, if your certificates are not installed correctly they will start to expire after 6 months.
We typically do not renew SSL certificates that are older than 6 months. If you notice that you can not connect to your website you may need to update your certificate. You can get a new certificate issued from the server by uploading a new one. If the certificate has already been issued by the CA, you may need to contact them.
Does Cloudflare offer SSL certificates? Cloudflare does not provide SSL certificates. We only support the secure HTTP protocol. To see the status of your connection to a website, you can follow the steps described above.
Why do I get warnings when I try to access websites using HTTP Secure connections? When a web browser connects to a website, it may be connecting over either HTTPS or HTTP. Depending on your settings, you may be able to connect to a website using either secure (HTTPS) or insecure (HTTP) protocol. You should try to connect to the website both ways and check the "Secure Connection" and "Unsecure Connection" messages that your browser reports back to you.
In the case of Cloudflare's edge locations, it may appear that you have an SSL certificate installed, but if you cannot connect using HTTPS then you likely do not have a valid certificate. To verify this, you can visit a web site that is served by Cloudflare and visit the URL in a web browser.
This will be a page that Cloudflare serves itself (such as www.cloudflare.com) which uses the HTTPS protocol. If you cannot reach this page, then it appears that you do not have a valid SSL certificate and we would suggest that you contact your SSL certificate service provider.
How do I check for SSL errors?
When I try to access a page on my website, the browser often tells me that it cannot access the URL because of an SSL error.
How do I check that the SSL encryption is actually causing problems, and how can I correct the problem? To test whether SSL encryption is working correctly, we suggest that you open up a new browser tab and type in your e-mail address. When you get a confirmation e-mail, this means that you have the right password and that your private information is safe to use.
Incorrect password. If you use one of the three e-mail addresses I have mentioned, then you have probably received an e-mail containing a "wrong password" message. It means that either: You entered an incorrect e-mail address. You entered the wrong e-mail address. The encrypted password has been changed. If the error is due to a password change, then you need to reset your password via the "Log in" button on your account page. For some people, this type of message occurs too often when they change their e-mail address. It would be convenient if this were not the case, but, for now, this is a limitation of the system.
