How to change hotspot IP address on Android?

How to change hotspot IP address on Android?

I recently purchased a new WiFi hotspot for use in my mobile device, so that my friends and family could use it without having to go through a tedious process of downloading and installing yet another application. Unfortunately, the first time I connected to it, I noticed an IP address that was way out of range. In fact, one of my friends who attempted to use it said that he had never seen a WiFi network that looked anything like it.

For a while, I was able to get around the issue by going into the settings screen and typing in 8. However, then I learned that using Google's DNS servers to do a web search would return search results way better than searching my own phone, which is what I want.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do an in-depth study of the workings of Android, and I still want to be able to share my device with others via Hotspot. Thus, I went looking for ways to modify my hotspot IP address.

What I found: Changing My Mobile Network. While I can't change the network I use from a desktop or laptop, I can change it on my mobile device. The solution comes from Android Device Manager, which will require your Android device to be rooted (for those of you unfamiliar with the term root, allow me to enlighten you).

First, let's get your device back on its home network. If you're not sure where your phone is, go to Settings > About Phone > Find my Phone.

You'll need to have your phone unlocked, so that you can connect to it. Then, tap on the connection in the top left, and scroll all the way to the right until you see your home WiFi network. Tap it. If you're having problems getting home, tap on the 3-dot icon in the top right, and then hit Scan for Network. That should do the trick. If you're having problems, try changing your router to something simpler, like OpenDNS or Google's 8.8 servers.

How to find IP address for hotspot?

Is there any way to find IP address for my hotspot?

The IP address of the Hotspot should be accessible via a network connection, if it's a wireless network, you will need to know the SSID of the hotspot and connect to it with the appropriate credentials. If the Hotspot is wired, then you should be able to connect to it with a standard network cable.

If you have some way of connecting to the hotspot then you should be able to see its IP address.

Does a mobile hotspot always have the same IP address?

If I create a mobile hotspot on my iPhone, will its IP address always be the same?

No. This is not always the case. The IP address is assigned to your MAC address. When you establish the connection between the phone and the hotspot, the MAC address of the phone is matched against the list of known phones. If there is a match, then the IP address is assigned to the phone.

Note that when you are using your own phone's cellular data connection, you are not actually connected to the hotspot, but rather to the mobile carrier's cell site. This is why you see the IP address change from time to time.

When using a 3G/4G network, you may have several connections at once, and the IP address you see may be from a different network connection than the hotspot. For example, you may connect to a 3G network and the hotspot, and at the same time you may also be connected to a 4G network. The IP address will be based on the IP address assigned to the 4G connection.
