Can companies see you on Glassdoor?
I have always been intrigued by this idea and never had the opportunity to create such a portal.
But I was reading an article in Wall Street Journal about Glassdoor (www.glassdoor.com), a website that helps job seekers and employees see what people have been saying about their companies on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google. According to this article () it was founded by Bryan Burrough, a former journalist at Vanity Fair.
It's basically an open-source system for collecting unbiased information about a company. How can your business integrate it with all the other tools? Re: Companies can see you on Glassdoor? Great idea. Glassdoor is free and they let companies sign up, so why not use the data collected by Glassdoor? That would benefit the companies most and that is where Glassdoor hopes to position themselves, providing the benefits of free to those companies and that it also benefits job seekers to know what companies are really like before they apply or interview there. It does not just mean that the company is looking for talent, it can beneficial to be able to offer a solid reference to their job applicant to convince him or her to join. Companies will be able to keep track of employee's opinions (negative or positive) and will be able to make changes, if necessary, to improve there service, based on those real time views.
Companies could choose to be on Glassdoor or not - but Glassdoor does not force them to be. Most likely these companies will decide that they wish to keep using Glassdoor as part of their corporate culture, as a resource for there talent acquisition team, where you could find the best fit for your candidates.
Good point, but let's not lose sight of the fact that Glassdoor is free. Anywhere else, companies would have to pay to have this information and if any company wants to do this, they have to pay for the privilege. As far as "keeping track" of employee's views, good luck. They have a lot of competitors who also have their own reviews sites - there's too much competition for those companies that do decide to use glass door's services to do something substantial with this information.
