Should Wi-Fi proxy be on?
I have a few machines that I've set up as Wi-Fi proxies for users in our office.
I've got them all set to automatically disconnect and reconnect if they don't find a connection for a few minutes. They've been working pretty well, but I just noticed the other day that I get logged off from my home network when I come back to work in the morning. I'm guessing that the router is disconnecting and reconnecting to the access point because it isn't finding a valid network.
Is this a bad idea, or is there something I need to configure on my router so that it doesn't keep doing that? Should I turn off Wi-Fi proxies and rely on the LAN for connectivity? We had a similar setup on our last router. We needed the wireless range to be a little larger than the wired connection. What we ended up doing was leaving the wireless range in the "off" state, and when the router is powered up we set it to be a repeater to a different AP in another location. In effect this is the same as what you're doing, but we use a different AP in a different location.
Another way to accomplish this is to not have the wireless at all. Your LAN cable to the other router would connect directly to your desk. You could also go through a switch if you like.
I've been using my own router with a cable modem as a proxy for the last year or so. Not only does it keep the router alive, it keeps the cable modem alive too.
On the server side, we have a server with an Ethernet uplink that keeps connected to the proxy router. This box keeps a connection to the upstream router and maintains the DHCP pool, ARP cache, etc. So the server has an always-on connection and we have several hundred computers hooked to it. We just leave the DHCP server enabled.
In the case where there is no client on the LAN, the server can be brought down. With multiple clients in the area, the client just connects and then disconnects when done. The server is always on.
With a cable modem, the client has to be aware of the modem on the other side, but with a proxy, the client has no awareness of the proxy router.
What is Configure proxy in Wi-Fi settings?
The configuring of proxy in Wi-Fi settings is the process by which you connect to the internet through a proxy server and it allows the devices to access the web content through the proxy server.
You can also use the IP address of the proxy server to access the internet through it.
The proxy server is used to bypass the local network to access the internet, but using the proxy server will make it easy for the users to bypass their local network to access the content of the websites. By doing this the website can be accessed through the proxy server instead of the original IP address.
