Can I get a job with web scraping?
So I would like to know if it is possible to get a job as a web scripter or not.
I know very little, but I have worked in the programming field. But now I need a job and I want to know if I can do that without having any experience with it. And I mean getting a job in my area, where there are no jobs.
It's not possible to "get a job" as a web scripter. Web scraping requires a lot of programming skill. It is possible to get work for a programmer doing web scraping, but you would need to learn to program and find a company that does web scraping. If you don't have experience with programming, you would need to start off with learning some basic programming languages and then get a job that allows you to do what you're going to do.
Is scraping Upwork legal?
This article is about the legality of scraping Upwork from my own personal experience, but I do not represent Upwork, Inc.
, nor do I have any intention to sell it. I'm doing this because I get so many questions about it, and people often want to know if it's legal, so I figured I'd share my own experience.
My Experience. In September 2024, I had a friend who told me about Upwork. She started an account to find freelance web developers for small projects. She posted a simple HTML form on her website with four fields: title, description, URL, and description. When you hit the Submit button, it took you to an external site where you could fill out the form again. After filling out the form, clicking submit, and adding your payment details, you were redirected back to her website where your task would be listed and waiting for you to complete.
For a long time she and I went back and forth, discussing this form of advertising. And, as far as we both knew, it was a perfectly legal way to advertise your freelance business.
Then, in November 2024, I made an account at Upwork. This was a totally different experience. I was shown how to do it. I was asked to provide contact information. I filled out all of the information and provided two websites, but they asked for their own additional services, including a website review and a review by our in-house team.
I thought that this was a scam. So, I had been going back and forth on it. My friend continued to use Upwork to find freelance web developers for her projects. My first account was in September 2024, and closed in February 2024.
On February 3rd, 2024 I created a new account and was instantly sent a message saying that they had reviewed my website and would need more information. I gave them the link to my review by our in-house team and provided their additional services. Then I got a message saying, Sorry, we don't have what you need.
Is web scraping good for freelancing?
As a freelancer, what do you think of web scraping?
The short answer is 'yes' and the long answer is 'it depends'. Web scraping involves gathering information from the web and is commonly used to scrape web content. But what happens when you scrape your own websites for personal use? Should you ever scrape a website if you're working as a freelancer? The answer is yes, provided you have permission to do so.
Web scraping is good for freelance work because it increases your productivity and saves time. You're not forced to visit every website and perform all the actions manually, which is a great time saver and can make a big difference in terms of your income. But before you scrape your own websites, there are some things you should consider.
Consider the purpose. Before you start scraping websites, you need to think about why you want to scrap them. The reason might be to gather data, but remember that you're only allowed to scrape content that you own. If you're collecting data from a third party site (even if it's just an API), you're no longer allowed to do so because you don't own the data. If you scrape data that you're not permitted to do so, you're breaking the law. This is why it's important to consider why you want to scrape websites and what you plan to do with the data you collect.
There are a few reasons to scrape websites. One of the most common ones is that you need a list of email addresses, for example, so you can send a marketing campaign to them. You can also use email addresses to create a mailing list, allowing you to reach new potential clients.
The legal aspect. As mentioned, you can't scrape a website if you don't own the data. You need to own the website in order to scrape its content. However, if you don't own the data, you can't gather it, and you can't use it. Unless you have permission to scrape, you can't scrape anything. This means that if you plan to scrape content from a website that you don't own, you need to make sure you have permission to do so.
Does Upwork allow web scraping?
We're working on a project that involves some very sensitive and confidential information that would cause a lot of problems for us if it got out, so we can't just say outright "no, it's illegal", it's not technically or technically economically viable.
The question is, are we allowed to scrape other people's content on Upwork? We were planning on using the open source (and licensed) browser-extension 'Scrapy', but I don't know if that counts as scraping. We would need to find somebody with a high reputation who could host our bot in their web server, and be willing to host it for an extended period of time, as the site only allows scraping from certain IP addresses.
Is it legal to scrape other people's Upwork content? We would need to find a reputable person on Upwork that would host our bot for a long period of time for a large fee, we are able to pay the fee. You might want to investigate alternatives. Personally I have used google-chrome with no issue - just open the page up, switch to incognito mode and get the results you need - Gert ArnoldNov 19 '15 at 2:55. 1
It would best to look for someone who has experience in hosting a robot. For small sums of money (in relation to your desired goals) this should be quite simple and cheap to set up. They'll have access to your desired host in your account.

@JKrause It's not that simple. The bot needs to be running 24/7, but Upwork has no way to keep it running except in devmode. So we are looking for a long-term relationship with a company that will host our bot. We're looking for a monthly or annual contract.

@pnoll - there are quite a few companies that offer cloud hosting for robots like this. You just give them a bit of control (like, they can restart your bots), and a monthly subscription fee to keep everything running.
