How do I turn off website notifications on Android?

Recently I switched from Google Play to the Amazon Appstore for a family member who prefers the Amazon interface.

I have had issues with the Play Store because of all the popups that keep popping up and never get closed. I was hoping that I wouldn't have as many problems with the Amazon Appstore and that is where I am right now. However, every time there is an email or a text from somewhere it shows up on my screen and the app just looks at a black screen and says that it can't turn off the notifications. What should I do to fix this?

First, the answer seems obvious and you would think you would find this in the settings and change something. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. Next, you would figure that there must be a setting and it couldn't possibly be there. Well, there really is one but I can't figure out how to turn it off. The only thing that works is logging out and logging back in and that seems silly because I am already logged into my Amazon account. I could turn off automatic app updates and the option to download an app for free in the store (the first option in the settings) but they are not available because I don't want to do those because I know when I get home at midnight tonight, my son will be home and I want to be able to watch TV or read without all the notifications on my screen. It is very annoying to me since I can see that there is one, click on it and all of the notifications come on to my screen and I only want to have to wait 10-15 minutes to find out that there is not a need for it when I get home. If anyone has any idea please let me know.
