How do I get rid of enterprise enrollment on a Chromebook?

How do I get rid of enterprise enrollment on a Chromebook?

If you're an enterprise, chances are you're using the enterprise feature in Chrome OS.

But what does that mean? Is it good or bad? How do you get rid of it? Here's how: ? In my last post about security and Chrome OS, I discussed why I think enterprise features are valuable for businesses and how they're built into the operating system. Unfortunately, some business owners may not be aware of how to get rid of them, and I thought I'd write a quick post to help out.

While most of this should be self-explanatory, I did want to take a quick look at how the enterprise setting is implemented in Chrome OS. If you're not familiar with it, I'd recommend checking out my post on security and enterprise features. It helps explain some of the functionality, and makes the rest easier to understand.

The problem. When you set up your Chromebook as a device for your business, it looks pretty much like it does for other users. You can login, check email, and surf the web just as you would as a normal user. The problem is, when you set up your device for a business, it doesn't actually give you full control over the device. For example, the first thing you do when you login is choose your language, which will install a set of apps for you and put your preferences into effect.

But even though you can log in, there's no way to configure your device to actually serve only business purposes. For example, if you need a secure, password-protected directory that only the business has access to, there's no way to set that up. So when you're working for your business, you're still working in a secure, secure directory that the business doesn't have access to.

Instead, it uses the desktop features, which means you still have your normal settings for email and web browsing, but you also have to deal with the fact that your data isn't protected. This is a key difference between a personal Chromebook and an enterprise device, and it's a major drawback for many businesses.

The solution. Thankfully, there's a way to remove all of those issues. Follow these steps to disable enterprise features on your Chromebook.
