Can you block a website on Safari?
One of the most annoying things about Safari on Mac is that you can't block a website.
It's particularly annoying if the website you want to block is a news website, but it doesn't stop there. You can block other websites, too, such as porn websites and file sharing sites, but not all the news sites.
To get around this, we have a third-party solution: The Great News Blocker. The Great News Blocker works by automatically redirecting any requests from a blocked website to an alternate URL. This is not exactly the same thing as blocking a website, because it will still load the blocked website's content, just not the front page. In order to prevent that, you can use the following method.
Note that this only works with Safari 7 or later. If you're using Safari 6, you'll need to disable the AutoFill feature to get it to work.
Method 1: Change DNS settings. Here's a simple method that'll allow you to block a website on Safari, even if you have AutoFill enabled: First, open the Network Preferences window, and click on the Advanced button. Set your DNS settings so that your Mac's DNS server points to the IP address of 8.8 (Google's public DNS server). If you're unsure what to set it to, try Google's.
Now, when you type in a website address into your browser's address bar, the DNS lookup will take place with Google's DNS servers. You should see something like the image below.
From now on, whenever you enter a website URL into your browser's address bar, the DNS lookup will be done through Google's servers. This means you won't be able to access the site.
Method 2: Disable AutoFill. If you'd like to completely block a website using this method, you'll need to disable AutoFill in your browser. In Firefox, to do this, open your browser and go to Options Privacy & Security Settings. Click the AutoFill tab, and uncheck the box that says "Use custom settings for this website".
In Chrome, you can disable AutoFill by opening your browser and going to Settings Show Advanced Settings AutoFill. You'll then be presented with a window with several options. In the bottom left of the window, click the Disable button.
How do I permanently block adult websites on my iPad?
Some of my friends and family can see porn sites on my iPad, how do I remove the site list?
To prevent the sites you don't want your children to see from popping up in Safari, you need to turn on parental controls. Go to Settings and then select Parental Controls. A list of websites that will show up in the Safari's search bar will be on the screen. Tap Remove All Website Addresses and you are done.
The same thing is true for blocking adult sites on Android devices. This is where the parental controls are on iOS, Android, and Windows, but the settings are different depending on what platform you're using. IOS:
Android: How do I block my iPad from downloading adult sites? There's a third-party app called "Blocked" that can block any website without having to edit your hosts file. It's not an ideal solution, but it can work. Here's how to block sites from your iPad:
Sign into your Google account if you haven't done so already. Click on the Google Play Store app icon. Open the app. Click "More". Click "Settings". Scroll down to "My apps & games". Click "Apps you own". Click "All apps". Click "Search apps". Type "Blocked". Tap on the first result. Click "Install". Once the app is installed, you'll need to install a Google account so the app can work properly. If you don't have a Google account, you can create one here: This won't work for everyone since not all sites have the option of turning off your device's Wi-Fi or data connection if you are at a public location. These options can be enabled for more control. If you are concerned that you may need to block a website, you should always make sure you are in an area where you can disconnect your device.
Do adult websites block the Wi-Fi network on my iPad? Some adult websites actually use this method to block their visitors. This is called a captive portal and is usually placed in a public area where people with a lot of bandwidth can stream videos without being interrupted. However, if the adult website is blocking your access to their website, you won't be able to get on your site.
How do I block Safari on my iPad?
There seems to be two ways of doing this.
There's a simple app on the App Store called No Safari.e. There's also an iPad Safari Blocking Tutorial that details how to block it using iTunes.
However, while No Safari lets you block all browsers in iPad, including Safari, iTunes won't let you block Safari specifically. So how can you block a specific app on your iPad? While I can't say for sure whether it works on the new iPad or not, here are the steps that seem to work on the current model. Please note that these steps may differ from the model-to-model upgrade.
Go to Settings Go to Applications Tap Safari (On the left) Touch Remove All Devices Enter the code and press submit. Go back to settings and remove Safari completely. If this still doesn't work, try removing Safari on all devices at once.
There's another way to achieve the same goal. It's a little weird, but you can use an Apple TV to remove and add Safari as needed. And you know what? It actually works! Watch the quick iPhone vs. Apple TV video tutorial after the jump!
How To Block Safari On Your iPad With An Apple TV. For some reason, the instructions provided for this method have been completely erased from the Apple website. But the instructions and basic workflow are essentially the same.
Here's the idea: Turn off your iPad Turn on your Apple TV (a. Air) Wait till it gets to the main menu Select a Time Warner or Comcast account and log in Connect your iPad to the screen and open Settings (a. Control Center) From Settings tap Block Access Enter in your Safari code Wait for your device to restart
After your iPad is all set up, turn it on, open your Control Center, tap Safari (on the left), and then look for your add code under Block Access. Press Add Code, enter the code, and wait for it to restart.
The only reason why I chose the Apple TV as my guide is that you don't need a network at all! Just connect your iPad via USB and it should automatically start installing whatever you select in iTunes.
How do I block a specific website on my iPad?
By default, your iPad blocks all websites.
To allow access to a specific site, you need to create a custom exception.
Open the Settings app, tap Safari, and tap General. Tap Website Exceptions, and then tap Add Exception. Enter the URL of the website you want to allow access to and then tap Done. Now, when you visit the website in Safari, it appears in the list of exceptions for your iPad. Tap the exception you created to open the website, and you're done.
Your iPad can block websites for security and privacy reasons. For example, you might block the home page of a website where someone posted a virus to your iPad. The sites that appear in the Safari Web Exceptions list, along with the apps associated with those sites, are generally trustworthy. You can also block websites where a web page is slow to load, or the text is difficult to read, so you can focus on what you want to read without being distracted by loading times.
If you don't use Safari for accessing a website because you prefer another browser, or if you have access to a Wi-Fi hotspot but use your iPad at home or in an office to connect to a network, you can add website exceptions from the web browser you use instead. You can create an exception for any URL in the browser that you use.
In the web browser you use, tap the menu button (three horizontal lines) at the top of the screen. Tap Add Exception. Type the address of the website or app, and then tap OK. Tap the menu button again, and select an option from the list of sites in the web browser. When you view your iPad's Web Exceptions, only the sites you add in this manner appear, unless you later add another exception. Tip: If you want to stop viewing a website altogether, tap the exception you created and tap No. How do I share a link from a web browser? Safari's Share Sheet lets you send web links to email or message apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Messages, and iMessage. Your iPad also supports AirDrop, which lets you share a photo, video, or file from one device to another over a local Wi-Fi network.
